"...My job is very boring I'm an office clerk..." The first time I heard this evocative song I was won over. It remains one of my favorite songs of that era. How I wish I could have left my boring office job in Manchester to visit "Echo beach".

I'd never heard this song 'up close and personal', i.e. a good copy on a good stereo, but my ears always pricked up when I heard it playing.

It really is one of the most complete pop-singles ever recorded - the song, the production (the playing is absolutely top-notch) , everything about it seems close to perfect.

I reckon the people involved would probably say it practically wrote and played itself.

Revisiting this song about yearning and nostalgia after all these years makes it all the more poignant.
