stellar soul treasures! 4 Nov. 2012
By Donald E. Gilliland - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Oh my, I don't know where to begin in praising this CD. I bought the excellent Father's Children CD that the Numero Group reissued last year, and was so impressed with that one (70s soul fans: you NEED to get that Father's Children CD!) that I ordered this compilation from RBG (Red, Black & Green) Productions, the same guys behind the Father's Children recording. Actually, it's pretty much one guy, Robert Williams, who was the genius behind these recordings. He produced all 19 tracks on this CD complilation, recorded between 1972 and 1975, including the closing track, the dreamy "Linda Movement" by Father's Children. As much as I've grown to love that band, the other tracks on here are the real revelation. Everything I love about 70s soul can be found on this CD; from funky, jazzy jams to soulful crooning, and pop bliss. One group, East Coast Connection, has a track called "Summer in the Parks" that is a brilliant tribute/medley to popular tunes by Kool & the Gang, Isaac Hayes, Earth Wind & Fire, and Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers. Brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. What's mindblowing about this compilation is just how great these songs are, and how impressive these "unknown" artists are. Where did Williams find so much talent? Well, most of it came from the Washington, DC area. It's amazing to find this much quality music that was gathering dust in a recording studio. Just like the Father's Children reissue, this one is a definite must for 70s soul fans. A true treasure chest of soul music.
