I work in London and commute daily and just knew there had to be so much interesting stuff about London of which I was unaware. I spotted this book in a bookshop in Fleet Street and it's one of the best books I've ever read. Funny, informative and with detailed suggestions on what to see and where to go, and also ideas of walks around the areas to see some of the more, shall we say, strange things in and around this great capital city of ours. Easy to read, with some great photos. I'd recommend it, and it's an ideal book to dip in and out of. Benedict le Vay also gives some website addresses that will give even more info if you need it. All in all, a fantastic read and one which will cheer you up on the cold, dark, winter nights.

A truely hillarious and unusual guide to the eccentric and unusual London.
Benedict le Vay presents in a very personal and interesting way the odds of this exciting town - things to see and do which wouldn't show up in a lonely planet guide (so none of the Tower of London or Madam Tussaud's stuff in here...). Where e.g. would you have heard of the "Mudathon", Mick Jagger explaining his neighbour cricket rules, eccentric judges or where to find the unusual toilets in town?
He packs a huge amount of information in this book ranging from historic buildings, shopping, odd jobs to eccentric still-alive persons. And it's topped up with specific tours for various areas of London.
A great book to get hold of, not only for the interested visitor but also for Londoners I guess!

This is the best guide book i have ever read though I confess I have not used it as a guide to any of its walks in London. It is a most entertaining guide to London and its history. it is informative, funny and witty. At times it has some astute comments, especially concerning Princess Diana. The author is a journalist and writes very well. I shall be looking for more of his work.

This guy really knows how to spot an eccentric when he sees one. This is essential reading if you want to uncover the quirky and fascinating history of London. If only the author could start a walking tour based on his discoveries, I'm sure it would be an instant success.

My wife and I had been loaned this book and we found it most interesting. It is not something you read right through but pick up and dip into. So we decided to get our own copy. In the odd ten minutes or so you can pick it up and enjoy.
