Western adaptation of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. Set in a Wild West town in the Rocky mountains during the Gold Rush, the story follows Ebenezer Scrooge (Jack Palance), a miserable card-cheating miser, who owns the local saloon along with half the town. On Christmas Eve he is visited by three apparitions who try to teach him the true spirit of Christmas.

Saddle up for a cowboy Christmas in this adaption of Charles Dickens well loved story "A Christmas Carol". The scene is transfered from London's East End to a Wild West town in the Rocky mountains during the Gold Rush. Ebenezer is the miserable card-cheating miser, who owns the local saloon along with half the town. On Christmas Eve he is mysteriously visited by three apparitions who try to teach him the true spirit of Christmas. Will the lessons be learnt? Will Ebenezer show the improverished Bob Crachett any appreciation.
Although this tale is Westernized, it works here. Jack Palance performance of playing the redeemed and transformed Scrooge is excellent. Palance's Scrooge "converts" just slowly enough that it's believable and the townsfolk are at least initially reluctant to accept his transformed version.
Overall, this warm hearted re-telling of the classic story will be loved by all. It works well !!

This is a great Cowboy/Western style film version of A Christmas Carol/Scrooge written by Charles Dickens, starring Rick Schroeder and the late Jack Palance.

Ebenezer is a 1997 Canadian television production re-telling of Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol with Jack Palance playing Ebenezer Scrooge.

This version sees Ebenezer Scrooge as the most greedy, corrupt and mean-spirited crook in the old Wild West. He sees no value in celebrating the festive season except when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future open his eyes, Scrooge discovers that love and friendships are the greatest wealth of all.

Actor Jack Palance died in November 2006. Actor Rick Schroeder is a former child star and has appeared in NYPD Blue and many films.

The film runs for 94 minutes, and is an absolute Christmas classic to watch over and over again.

There are many films based on the original `A Christmas Carol` by Charles Dickens, but this one is the most far removed (from Dickensian London) that I've seen so far. In this tale Scrooge is a hard faced, cigar smoking, gun slinging saloon owner! Jack Palance is well cast and even manages to get the odd laugh in here and there (demanding his side-kicks boots to throw at someone!)Worth watching if you're into this type of film.

This is an alternative version but great! It's good to see different takes on the classic, and this is one of them! But if you want a traditional story based on the book then this is not for you!

Most unusual take on Scrooge, but I liked it and of course Jack Palance was at his most menacing!! Well done to him.
