Review

Caroline M. Apovian, MD, FACP, FACN
"As nutrition specialists we often see postpregnancy patients and wish they had received good nutrition counseling prior to and during pregnancy. This guide should be on the bookshelves of all obstetricians as they counsel their pregnant patients. It is a must-have for all pregnant patients who want to have a healthy peripartum experience."

Diane Snyder, MD, OBGYN
"As an obstetrician this is a welcome resource for our patients. We often wish we had more time during prenatal visits to review healthy eating and recommendations for adequate nutrition. This book is a welcome addition!"

"Pittsburgh Tribune-Review"
""Eating for Pregnancy" has features that distinguish it from other books in the pregnancy category, including a family approach to eating and cooking during pregnancy, diabetic exchanges, an extensive chapter on vegetarian cooking, and tips for coping with morning sickness. It's a book for motherhood in the 21st century."

Product Description

Every pregnant woman recognizes that what she eats, drinks, and does with her body directly affects the developing baby within her. Yet mothers-to-bebetween juggling work, other children, and their many other responsibilitiesoften don't have the time that they'd like to devote to their nutrition. Now, Eating for Pregnancy addresses the nutritional needs of pregnant women today, helping them navigate through frozen food aisles and prepared food sections and prepare homemade meals as healthy and easy as possible. Authors Jones and Hudson provide reassuring, up-to-date nutritional information; shopping and eating tips to keep nutrient-intake high and unnecessary weight-gain to a minimum; and guilt-free, smart-choice convenience and semi-prepared food options. Their more than 120 recipes, organized into six main sections, are high in vitamins, iron, calcium, protein, and fiber and moderate in amounts of fat, sodium, and sugar. Each recipe highlights "What's in this for baby and me?" and includes complete nutritional breakdowns and meal planning advice; many offer suggestions for substitutions and other timesaving shortcuts. Eating for Pregnancy also caters to women with gestational diabetes with diabetic tips and ADA exchange values. A vegetarian chapter offers essential advice to pregnant vegetarians along with inspiring recipes. Eating for Pregnancy is the only book that combines the experience of a professionally trained cook and writer turned home cook and mother with the expertise and experience of a perinatal nutritionist who sees hundreds of clients a year.

Delicious Recipes 27 Aug 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
My mother bought me this book and it is a god-send. It has all the facts about nutrition: how much protien a pregnant woman should have; how much folic acid; how much weight she should gain, etc. But best of all it has recipes. Recipes which taste good and have ingredients available at a local supermarket. After being scared into what I had to eat and couldn't eat, it is a delight to realise that so much enjoyable, easy to cook food is also virtuous and good for me!

eating for pregnancy 14 Oct 2009
By S. Paez
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The book lists important food information and explains why certain foods must be avoided, which is what I wanted from this book.

However it is American so some of the food brands do not exist in the UK; neither did I require all the recipes that go with it.

Very Americanised 10 Aug 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I was extremeley disappointed with this book, all of the ingredients in the recepies are based on products that you would find in an American Supermarket rather than in the UK. The nutritional advice is good however I was looking for a cook book
