Life-long healthy eating and weight control, 2 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Eat Yourself Slim....and Stay Slim ! (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me to help control sugar cravings and hypoglycaemia (I had no weight to lose so I went straight to Phase II). I find I understand a lot more about my metabolism and how to avoid fluctuating blood sugar levels which left me shaky, nervous and irritable. More importantly, you need never be hungry. What Montignac says makes such perfect sense, revealing how harmful low calorie diets are to metabolism (i.e. many overweight people actually consume few calories). Reading the beginning of the book is indispensable for a thorough understanding of the principles, and then following it is relatively easy. Reading it inspired me to buy more wholefoods and this is clearly good advice for everyone, not just those who wish to lose weight. His main point seems to be that in the past, people ate more unrefined food, which is why obesity was less of a problem. I would not hesitate to recommend this book for its common-sense perspective on food and weight. Weight loss is gradual and steady - it is actually a healthy eating plan which you must follow for life - but it is so flexible and allows you to eat so many good things (dark chocolate, red wine, meat, ...) that it is not a gruesome thought like other diets. The variety of foods also seems to ensure that nutritional needs are met, unlike fad diets where you risk malnutrition.

A must-read, 18 April 2002

This review is from: Eat Yourself Slim....and Stay Slim ! (Paperback)
This book is a must-read for everyone, although particularly for people looking for a sensible way to lose or control their weight. Montignac's theory makes absolute sense and uses scientific studies to back it up. The hardest part is to get your head round the fact that you can eat loads of types of food which you would normally avoid if you were following a 'traditional' low calorie diet - wine, chocolate, cheese etc. You then realise how much of our food nowadays is processed and/or has added sugar or starches. It takes a little bit of effort to get going and to avoid the refined foods but it's really just a matter of changing your habits and the sooner you do so the better. I've just ordered one of the recipe books for more ideas. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in having more energy, maintaining/losing weight and increasing their health overall.

The only diet that works without starving you, 9 Sep 2004
This review is from: Eat Yourself Slim....and Stay Slim ! (Paperback)
This is a diet & a lifestyle book that introduces a revolutionary way of dealing carbohydrates & fats. By cutting out all bad carbohydrates and then simply avoiding combining good carbohydrates and fats within the same meal I have managed to lose weight rapidly & without causing the kind of nutritional health problems associated with the atkins or the ridiculous expectations of low fat/calorie diets. Unlike both these types of diets, the montignac method ( as described fully in the boook) not only insures you lose weight (and lots of it) but also makes sure that weight stays off. It is however important that you read & understand the whole book, if you dont understand the main principle then the diet may not work for you... dont skim read!! Personally i have never felt healthier...
