What a great book!

I got this book as a gift from a friend. I love to cook and she thought I would enjoy this since I also like to garden. This opened up a whole new world for me. I knew you could eat roses but nasturtiums and pansies and lavender and tons more flowers. It is easy to read with instructions on how to grow the plants, recipes on how to use them including the FABULOUS Roasted Red Pepper Soup with Nasturtiums and Fresh Thyme. That was a big hit for the 4th of July! There are lists what are edible and what isn't and certain rules to follow plus lots of little hints and shortcuts. I liked this book so much that I bought copies for gift giving for my cooking friends.

Part botanical guide, part cookbook, this terrific spiral-bound book opens with all-important rules for eating edible flowers, which ones not to eat, and how to gather and prepare flowers. Once that bit of housekeeping is out of the way, Denise leads readers with a practiced and sure voice through the universe of edible flowers, one at a time. Plants are arranged by common name, and for each there is a description, its predominant taste or smell, how it can be used, any cautions about eating the plant,and a beautiful photograph. Many of the plants mentioned can be grown in your garden, and Denise provides cultural requirements as well. The second half of the book is devoted to tempting recipes that Denise has tested, refined, and served at the edible flowers festival she hosts each year.
This is a fun, interesting, and easy to use book that will make you want to go out in your garden, snip some flowers, and take them back to the kitchen to whip up something unique and delicious. Makes a great gift for gardeners and cooks alike.

A Perfect Combination

If you love gardening and you love to cook, this book is the perfect combination of both. Eating and decorating with flowers has long been a hobby of mine and this book still taught me a few new tricks. Beside serving up the most beautiful meals this is a fantastic way to introduce children to world of gardening and cooking!
