Format: Paperback Verified Purchase want to lose weight but you find diets boring.......can't seem to stick to them without becomes 'samey' and tedious.......tried the Cabbage Soup thingy??? WELL.......there is another me I'm a Doctor! This is probably the best purchase you've ever made in your diet book buying life. Carrie Brown's soups are both delicious and adventurous, her soups are both nutritious and filling, her soups are both fat-burning and balanced. In fact, unless you are a Belgian, these soups are probably the best soups you will ever make or have the pleasure of eating. May I suggest that you take some time out, gather the basic ingredients and get cooking. I promise you, no regrets, a full satisfied stomach and delightfully teased taste buds. Go on, you know it makes sense!!

I like soup. I make my own soup. But I've tended to be a "bung it all in a pan and hope" type soup maker. This book has taken my taste buds to places they have never been before, with regard to those common or garden veggies we often have languishing at the bottom of our fridges. Spicey cauliflower - devine. Roasted red pepper and tomato - sublime and her mushroom soup? Wow. As for her "meal in a bowl" type soups, they are amazing. Go on, buy this book. You'll not be disappointed and the fact the are extremely good for you is a benefit you won't even be considering; you'll be too busy savouring the taste.

I have Carrie Brown's other book - "Eat dessert first" .... it's fab too and I eagerly await her next culinary masterpiece.

A Must Have Cookbook for Everyone 3 Nov 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Carrie has put together the most amazing collection of soups that you will ever try. Vegetarian or not - there's definitely a soup here for everyone. Healthy and creamy soups - pages and pages of soups that will fill your tummy, satisfy your taste buds and maybe even trim your waistline at the same time. Without a doubt, my two favorites are the Chicken and Mushroom Soup and the creamy onion soup. The best thing about the creamy soups is Carrie's use of coconut milk that it not only enhances the flavor of all the other ingredients, but is almost like taste of the tropics at the same time. Some of the recipes call for some unconventional ingredients, but Carrie does a great job of explaining what they are and how you use them. This book is a must have for everyone's cookbook collection - especially if you are a soup lover.

Now, I can eat vegetables and enjoy them 14 Jan 2014
By Sherry Yancey - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have made just one soup, the one on the cover, and Oh My Gosh! This one easy and incredibly tasty soup was worth the purchase price. Carrie makes this so easy as she lays out the steps in a way that is easy to read and follow. She explains why you do the things she tells you and what can happen if you don't. Plus, she is funny as heck! Who'd thought, an entertaining cookbook.

My husband bought me this as a stocking stuffer, so I can't be a verified buyer. Additionally, these recipes are all about healthy and high fiber. You won't find cans or bags or boxes of ingredients to add. Also, to answer a question by another review, you will need basic kitchen appliances, copper, slicer, scale, etc. She uses a Vitamix (I do too). I have no idea how well a basic blender would perform.

I have died and gone to heaven! 23 Oct 2013
By MVP - Published on
Format: Paperback
This is probably the greatest book of recipes known to man! There are fan favorites like Turkey Pot Pie and clam chowder, and also some obscure ones that seem WEIRD, but are actually quite delicious! Hands down my three favorites are the Lasagna Soup and Sausage and Kale, and Salmon and Leek Chowder. They are the most hearty, tasty soups I've ever eaten, I absolutely cannot wait to make the whole lot. Next on the list Green Bean Casserole Soup - How could that NOT be Thanksgiving perfection in your mouth? Needless to say, I will buy every single cookbook Carrie comes out with- she really knows what she is doing!

Best way to eat your veggies 30 Dec 2013
By Anne CLS - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Carrie Brown has delivered for us! I eat at least 10 servings of veggies a day and Carrie's soups are an awesome way to get more of them in here. This is a great cookbook for anyone who is eating to avoid starches and won't find a single flour, rice, or potato in here. Just delicious non-starchy vegetables in about 30 new recipes. None take a long time to prepare and cook...most are about 30 minutes total. And Carrie is super funny in her writing, so you get a chuckle as well.

Simple, healthy, and easy to follow recipes 10 Dec 2013
By Suzanne Baker - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Great recipes, easy to follow, and they turn out fantastic. Carrie's step-by-step directions are foolproof, even for the non-cook like me! You'd never believe these recipes are so healthy. My whole family loves the ones I've tried so far and my kids have no idea there are a bunch of hidden veggies in the bases. Looking forward to trying more, they all look amazing!
