To anyone who has not already given it a go, I will say this: Stick with it! To begin with it looks complicated and nonsensicle at times, but if you persist the rewards are well worthwhile. I also recommend buying one of the menu books for meal ideas (as for the first week i lived off of Ryvitas and soy cheese!) because it can take a while to get used to implementing new foods and completely changing your eating plan.
The only thing i will say against the blood type diet (and this is through no fault of its own) is that it is not cheap and it is not something you can do on and off. for a while when money was tight i slipped back into my old ways and in no time at all was back to being bloated and lethargic, however, personally, i find it can be expensive and, as you cut as many preservatives out as possible, it can also be time consuming as there is a fair amount of food prep and cooking involved.
If you are prepared to integrate it into your life 100% you will get 100% back from it and feel 100% better!
LONG LIVE THE BLOOD TYPE DIET! :o)
A friend took me to a complementary therapist who recommended that I read Peter D'Adam's book The Eat Right Diet. I went to a friend's bookshop and bought it the following day.
Amazingly, as I started reading, I kept thinking "yes, that sounds like me, yes, I can identify with those symptoms" etc.
For a long time I had felt thought that somehow it was as though I was poisoning myself. Reading the book confirmed my subconscious thoughts, because my diet was largely made up of all the so called "healthy foods", ie., pasta, potatoes, wholemeal bread (home made), along with a varied selection of fruits and vegetables. Also I was almost vegetarian. This could not have been worse for my type! Even the food allergy tests had not shown any problems with the very same foods which were making me ill, so beware!
I started on the diet immediately, trying my best to cut out all the foods which were considered bad for my type (O). Within days I began to notice a difference, an improvement in the way I felt! My headaches were less, I generally ached less, my brain began to "clear", I did not feel tired all the time. Words cannot describe how relieved I felt! In fact, one day when I realised I was beginning to feel "human" again, I just sat down and cried!
Before I started on the blood type eating regime, I really did think I was dying. My doctor had tried everything, even though at times I am sure he thought I was hypochondriac because no one could "see" anything wrong.
Within weeks I was able to begin exercising again, where before my body would not allow it. I began to look forward to getting up in the morning and my "depression" flew out of the window.
Without this book and the others in the series which I also have, I know I would not enjoy life and better health, as I do today.
Peter D'Adamo and his father should be given a medal and recognition for what they have achieved. On behalf of the many people thier books have helped I say "thank you" and to those of you maybe wondering "should I try it?", I say "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" but beware you're not eating the wrong pudding for your type!
I found the book excellent in all aspects and now realise why certain foods have different effects on me. Unfortunatley since taking it into work a week ago I have not seen it as everyone keeps borrowing it!
