Idiosyncratic, amusing, and mouth-watering - a definite hit!,

I ordered this slightly at random but absolutely loved it once it arrived. Each page has got a hearty dose of humour, with plenty of read-out-loud bits (as my partner will attest, having heard me at it on Saturday morning, not long after the postie delivered it!). Would make a smashing present for anyone who likes food, though ardent and principled vegetarians may be less keen.

Having been living in America for a few years now, this book made me really homesick. The photos are beautiful, and the text is wonderfully written - almost every page made me laugh out loud, and yet there's real and obvious love there. Mr Wheeler is certainly passionate about his food, and even if I disagree violently about peas (for example), it remains a pleasure to read why he likes them so much. I can't recommended this book highly enough. Anyone who likes food, or pictures, or words will love this.Pork pies, bread and butter pudding, a fry up, lemon curd, brambleberries, toad-in-the-hole, chip butties, sticky toffee pudding, fudge tablet... These are all things that I miss, and must prepare for my self at the soonest opportunity.

There are so many foods in here I love and reading it made me want to eat them all, immediately. The pictures are great and the little tidbits of information about the foods are fascinating. Can I have some more?
