Biography

Erik “Everlast” Schrody didn’t particularly want to be a rapper. As a teenage graffiti writer in LA in the late ‘80s, Everlast started rapping to entertain his homeboys. It didn’t take too long for them to see he was talented.
“I was just rapping for fun, just to tell jokes,” he says. “And then they just encouraged me to do it. Some of them ... Read more in Amazon's Everlast Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for House Of Pain fans 10 Mar 2004
By Paul G
Format:Audio CD
I have been moved to write my first review by the fact that there are only 2 reviews for this album. I'm not a fan of rap but I am a fan of good music and this definitely is good music - I'm not really sure how it should be categorised as it covers quite a few genres. I like Rock, Folk, Metal, Blues - I guess this album must have some of all of these for me to like it so much - well maybe not the Metal! It's got a fantasic momentum, cruising along at walking pace, mostly what I'd call songs with tunes(!), with the occasional rap-type thing in between. I've got a lot of CDs and I can't think of any of them to compare this to, you know; buy it if you like .... All I can say is that this is one I'll always come back to - it would definitely be one of my desert island disks!
PS - If you get a chance to see him in concert then do it! It's the only time I've ever see every single person in the Astoria jumping up and down at the same time - though it must be said that that was for Jump Around!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great To Chill Out To 25 Aug 2001
Format:Audio CD
I would discribe this album as a 4am chill out album (and one of few in this catagory) It has great acoustic ballads and in the to songs with Carlos Santana great guitar solos. This album is great value for money and willl definatly be an album i could listen to over and over again as it is one of the best that i have heard in a very long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best music CD I've bought in Years. 27 Feb 2001
Format:Audio CD
I thought Black Jesus was great and bought the album (showing my age) because of that single, I've done this before and I am normally disapointed by the rest of the material. In the case of this CD I was pleasantly surprised, and now I can't seem to take this out of the CD player. (which is getting on the nerves of all my family and freinds). I had no knowledge of 'Everlast' and had I known that he was in HOP wouldn't have bought this as that whole 'hip hop' thing passed me by, it just proves how wrong you can be and has restored my faith in popular music to surprise & amaze. This is a very good record from a very talanted chap.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a Quality Album ! 19 April 2003
Format:Audio CD
Every single track on this C.D screams out Quality. The Jazzy,Country & Hip Hop Style blends so Precisely, the Ex-Man of House Of Pain really pulls it off On his Second solo Album. It's one of those Albums you Place on track 1 and let it run till the end without having to Skip a track. The Only Track that maybe sounds out of Place is Deadly Assasins Feat B - Real, Yes ! Good Track but....Just Doesn't Quite Fit in with the Emotional and Laid Back Anti Bad Boy sound That Everlast has Seemed to have Adopted. This Track would Have not of Sounded out of Place On " Whitey Ford Sings The Blues" but Alas . Babylon Feeling feat Santana ....Wow ! The Guitar Riffs and That Bass on the Chorus Is Raw ! Black Jesus...What A Funky Rock Number with plenty of Energy and Feeling. To an Extent Everlast has had Criticism over his Transformation from Rapper House Of Pain Frontman to Mellow Country Man but this Transformation has Brought Something Special in the name of..........."Eat at Whiteys" !

4.0 out of 5 stars Everlast once again on top form! 9 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Eat At Whiteys is an amazing fusion of jazz, rap and hip hop. I bought this album after hearing the marvellous "Black Jesus" and was in no way disappointed with the other tracks. The inclusion of the marvellous Santana in "Babylon Feeling" and the wonderful "Black Coffee" make up just a small part of this well rounded and fully entertaining CD. If you are a fan of Everlast this is a must have and even if you are not familiar with the smooth grooves of Everlast this is a CD that will outshine the others in your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its not hip hop!!! 9 Feb 2009
By Gerald
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The cd description is mis-leading as it says that Everlast is back with a fusion of hip hop! No he is not. This is rock and a very mild form of rock. The only hip hop track is with B-Real (you wouldn't expect anything less from B-Real). One or two others guest stars rap on this but Everlast does not. This cd is exactly like Whitey Ford sings the blues. Does anyone think this was hip hop / rap. NO. I didnt think so. I still think the cd is only ok because I didnt like Whitey Ford too much as I expected Everlast to still be rapping! A few reviews here say it is rap but I can assure it is not. If you liked Whitey Ford then you will probably like this but if you didnt then I would advise you to avoid.

Eat at Whitey's shows just how diverse hip hop can be. Everlast has shown in his previous albums what he can do, now he's improving on it. This album is based more around live instuments than his previous work, but its still good hip hop. Check out Black Jesus, Black Coffee, and Love For Real, not to mention Graves To Dig and Put Your Lights On! An all round brilliant album which appeals to hip hop lovers and those who like the sound of a guitar.
