Included are instructions for my original designs of many useful items including doilies, jewelry, and gifts.
Don't be fooled by the title. The patterns in this book progress from a simple tatted flower to a beautiful 10" doily that will thrill even the most experienced tatters!

Not so easy!!!,
By
This review is from: Easy Tatting (Dover Needlework) (Paperback)
I bought this book in the hopes that the 'easy' part of the title would be exactly that, as I was a complete beginner and needed step-by-step guidance to learn tatting. However, I found, that while the book has some very nice patterns in it, the initial 'learning to tat' part was very basic and almost added as an afterthought.
The biggest problem I have had is understanding 'the flip' or the 'stitch transfer', and for a good long while, I scratched my head trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. This book certainly did not help, and I personally feel that I could have saved myself a lot of stress and bother if I had bought another book altogether. That said, this book IS good for anyone who has mastered the basics elsewhere, and who would like some unique patterns for smaller motifs. There are also two or three larger projects to do, but it really is not a comprehensive guide to tatting. I have since found that it is largely out of date as it does not include 'onion rings', 'josephine knots', 'split rings' or anything other than simple ring and chain work. I guess that is why it was so cheap, and to be honest, I am sorry that I bought it.

Very good,

This is a very good book for the tatter, with a range of patterns from the very simple to advanced. The simpler patterns can be easily used as a basis to encourage designing your own patterns.

I am a beginner, and this book really helped me to progress to shuttle-and-second thread tatting. Other books are kind of stuffy and hard to understand. The only complaint I might have is that the author doesn't introduce slightly more complicated tatting charts using 2 shuttles, but this book is definitly enough to get you started!

What a wonderful starter book! It is not too complex and not too simple. The instructions are very, very simple to understand. I use these books for my students when teaching my class! What a find!!! They came fast and well packaged. They were brand new and beautiful. They even get into adding beads! Wonderful! I need more! =D
