The best thing about this book is the price. If it wasn't so affordable, there wouldn't be very much to recommend - the choice of phrases can at times be more than usually obscure for a phrase book, and for an absolute novice in Spanish, mashing together phrases to form the sentence you want to say might take some foraging. However, the basic words and phrases are there, and the book is slim and lightweight enough to take with you anywhere you go.

I would much advise people going to Spain to learn some basics using Madrigal's book, or the Spanish book from the Macmillan Master Series (the latter in particular might seem very outdated now), and to use a small phrasebook such as this to boost your vocabulary as you need it.

The thing is, when you go to WH Smth or any other book shop for a useful Lanquage phrase book, you normally have to pay between £5-10. Not any more.
The Easy Spanish Phrase Book is a useful and well thought out little number.
The book is split into sections relating to everyday holiday use.
Obviously you are not going to speak fluent Spanish with this book, but when you go to Spain on your holiday it is nice to try to speak the local language and this in itself gets the respect of the locals.

Well worth buying and putting in your suitcase to Spain.
A good buy at a bargain price.

Everyone studying Spanish should get a small book like this. It is simple and to the point without pictures nor distractions. It is easy to use and to get quick references when in need (like on holidays) especially as the expressions are divided by activity, as for example:when going to the stores you will find phrases asking where a chemist is or the market. All the phrases have the phonetic expression that is excellent so you don't need to struggle with remembering the right pronunciation (there is a pronunciation guide at the end of the book). Because is an american book some words in English are different...drugstore for chemist and so on..that may be the negative issue with this book. But, for the price is worth it.

This book must have been dug out of a time capsule from the nineteen fifties. Great if you would like to send a telegram, purchase razor blades, or a roll of film, or sit in the smoking car. Don't bother asking for an ATM or internet cafe - and forget about your sexual health. Fortunately the price doesn't seem to have gone up much since it was published.

Nice slim book that does what it says in the title. Cheap, light, easily popped in your suitcase or bag and covers most everyday situations. Its more useful for holidays than anything else and I only really used it a couple of times as I preferred the lonely planet fast talk guide. Although its slim, it is quite 'tall' so you can't pop it in your pocket.

As an insight into the needs of the American traveller from the late 1950's this is a great little book but as a useful phrasebook for the modern traveller it is somewhat lacking, although it is incredibly cheap and slimline for easy portability. There are phrases for ordering a dozen handkerchiefs, asking "may I have this dance?", a whole section on sending telegrams, cablegrams and asking how long a night letter would take to arrive, and how to demand to see a North American doctor. However, if you want to decipher a menu or ask for any help for things invented later than about 1959, you'll probably want a more up-to-date phrase book.

If you are doing what the writer is doing and travelling as they did, it's good. I was able to pick up some phrases that helped me get through situations. It is as the title suggests easy. But thinking in English and wanting a word when under pressure to converse may lead you to want a more comprehensive guide.
