This is a really helpful series starting with the alphabet and 'hello' (vol.1) and graduating to brief extracts from Chekhov and others (vol.2). The 28 units are excellent not just for learning the subtleties of pronunciation, but for understanding how the Russian language and Russian minds work.

These audio lessons jumped right into learning the language and moved briskly. I also enjoyed the structure of the lessons and their thematic organization. Unlike other audio language learning tapes the tracks were engaging - my attention was kept and I felt like I was actually absorbing Russian. Overall, this audio training is excellent for those who need to learn Russian fast, or may only need to learn enough for a specific situation.

Advancing into the Russian Language, with Max Bollinger

While it would be helpful to master Volumes 1 and 2 of Max Bollinger's excellent EASY RUSSIAN FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS before taking on Volume 3, in other ways it is stimulating to discover some of the intricacies of Russian language. In this CD he stresses the importance of gender in grammar and introduces more advanced concept than in volumes 1 and 2 that reflect Russian culture and the expressive errors incorrect use could create. And again in leading us through these elements he maintains his elegant speaking voice and dignified but very warm teaching technique.
In this CD Bollinger uses a series of themes that tie together both vocabulary elements of grammar with correct methods of addressing concepts. Of note, he introduces a bit of piano or orchestral music between themes to allow a bit of relaxation. The themes covered here include colors, emotions, likes, dislikes, seasons, weather, art, music. Or, to place the lessons in order, they are the following Gender of Russian Nouns, Pronouns, Utensils and Table Manners, Speaking Russian in Color, Russian Red Riding Hood, Russian Weather Talk, Seasons Months and Difficult Sounds, Emotions Likes and Dislikes, and Art, Music, and Film in Russian.
Progressing through Max Bollinger's friendly but no nonsense serious lessons gives the listener/student so much inside information about Russian culture and the popular use of the language that other language programs do not include. He is a mesmerizing teacher and with consistent listenings and practicings you WILL be able to learn conversational Russian with a backup cultural understanding. Grady Harp, December 11
