Product Description

Product Description

Fully revised and updated for 2010, this specialist A3 road atlas designed for the British motorist in France includes 44 city, town and port plans and a new style central Paris city plan. Coverage includes road mapping for Corsica, and there is a channel hopping guide, channel tunnel terminal and channel tunnel port plans. The atlas is giant scale throughout, making it very easy-to-read and mapping is provided by the AA and the Institut Geographique National (IGN), the experts on roads in France.

This map is easy to read and clear, but it's not ideal for planning a long journey. For instance, planning a trip from Calais to the Cote d'Azur in this atlas meant following the route across 29 double-pages. I found it difficult to follow the roads as I was turning the page so frequently and you can't see where you're headed next without constant leafing back and forth... So we have a second fold-out map of the whole of France for planning the route in advance. Then I use this one in the car once we've arrived at our destination for short journeys where the detail is more useful and the constant page-turning not quite so annoying!

This road atlas, like most, has its good points and bad points. First the good points:

1. It has a plastic spiral binding which means it lies flat or can be folded back on itself.

2. The print is very legible with even the smallest villages shown.

3. It includes fixed speed camera sites.

Now for the quibbles:

1. With a spiral binding you often find the road you are following zig-zags infuriatingly down the spiral separation which can make it difficult to follow.

2. The overlap between pages is rather mean which makes it more difficult following a route from one page to another.

3. It's a very large atlas (15.5 x 11 ins) which can make it cumbersome for the passenger navigating in the car!

On the whole I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Big & beautiful! 2 Feb 2010

Excellent details , ferry info also which is very helpful. Large print as promised & once you get used to the size of the pages no problems haven't used it on long journey yet but will do in the near future.

2011 Big Easy Read Road Atlas of France
The value of this atlas is in its clear labelling and location of all motorway service stations. A ringed version would be easier to handle but good value nevertheless.

Big Easy Read France 2011
Essential, as it shows all the small places you will not find on a Michelin small scale fold away map. I use both and cannot do without either.

essential reading
I may be old fashioned but I need a decent map to back up my electronic navigation. This map is excellent for detail and clarity

Good if you don't need the details on smaller roads
The maps are clear, though not as detailed as the Michelin A4 version. If you just need to get yourself round via main routes and D roads, this book provides good, clear maps. Read more
