Great for everyone, not just beginners!, 11 Feb 2001

This is a great book to buy for all musicians! There are so many classics. There are different sections for different periods of music, eg, Baroque, where Vivaldi's famous 'Spring' from the four seasons features, plus many others. Then the Classical period, featuring Mozart's 'Symphony no.40' (yes, its the popular mobile phone ring tune!) and Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata', plus many others. Then onto the Romantic period featuring Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake' and Verdi's 'La donna e mobile'. There is also a big section on Theatre Music, Opera, Ballet, featuring many many classics, such as 'The Barber of Seville overture' by Rossini, 'Lakme Flower Duet' by Delibes, and the 'Sleeping Beauty Waltz' by Tchaikovsky. Then features a section on Dancing Music, feat. 'The Blue Danube waltz no.1', and Brahms' 'Hungarian Dance'. Then onto the Religious Music, feat. extracts from Haydn's 'Creation', Parry's 'Jerusalem', and the classic, 'Swing low, Sweet Chariot'. Finally onto the Descriptive Music section, feat. Tchaikovsy's amazing 'Romeo and Juliet' and finishing the book with Debussy's 'The girl with the flaxen hair.' These are only a few, there are too many to mention. Also, not only are there sections for different periods, there is a lot of information about those periods so it is great for revising as well. The only criticism i would have is that because it is an easy book, some of the vital chords are missing which makes a few melodies thin. But this is only a small criticism: if the person notices this, then they are probably at a stage where they can improvise and will have no problem with it. An excellent book to have for all ages. BUY IT!

Lovely looking book, 27 Mar 2004
I'm a one-finger pianist (well, keyboardist really) who just wanted the sheet music for classical tunes to play out for my own pleasure. This is perfect for my purposes. Its a very attractive book, clearly designed and illustrated. I do think some familiarity with the music helps you learn them easier, which is no bad thing!
