Product Description

'Easy PC' assumes you have no previous knowledge of the world of computers. From the very basic skills of how to use your mouse and open files and programs, through to using CD ROMS, e-mail and the Internet, Dr Mole avoids baffling techno-jargon and explains each new term in a plain English index, making Windows really Easy PC.

From the Author

A truly easy beginner's guide to computing
On a visit to England, my American son-in-law gave me a computer as a so-generous birthday present, but when he'd left for home I found I couldn't work it. So I spent £30 on a teaching visit from an expert. Ten seconds after he'd left the room my mind went blank and stayed that way. So I spent another £30, this time on 'easy' guides for idiots. Perhaps I just wasn't idiotic enough. I understand medical textbooks, can read Latin and even a bit of Chinese, but these guides just drove me to despair. Would I ever understand that world of mice and double-clicks, MHz and RAM, applications and downloading, booting and logging, insertion points and drop-down menus and how 'easy' everything was supposed to be? So I started again from scratch and wrote down the answers to all my problems as I went along. They're all in this book. I can now manage documents, draw pictures, e-mail and web-surf and it really is easy, as it will be for you when explained by someone who can still remember that lost feeling of a helpless beginner and how he survived to tell the tale.

I found this book to be exactly what it said - a guide for those who had no prior knowledge of PCs. I'm using it as a tutor's guide in order to teach a course on computers for absolute beginners. It has helped remind me of the basics, which as an experienced user myself, you tend to forget or take for granted. I like it too because it's relatively inexpensive and although it has no fancy colour pictures, the graphics that there are are spot on. I would recommend this book as a much better alternative to the Dummies guides and much cheaper!
