Product Description

Album Description

The sixth volume in the popular mid-price series based on B.B. King’s original Crown LPs with bonus tracks. "Easy Listening Blues", from 1962, is an all-instrumental set with B.B.’s guitar, Lucille, well to the fore. The eight bonus tracks are blues/R&B instrumentals - none of which are currently available on Ace CDs. Includes the new-to-CD ‘Boogie Rock’ and ‘Talkin’ The Blues’, a superbly inventive RPM single from 1955 with the Maxwell Davis Orchestra. Compiler John Broven supplies the explanatory background notes. An essential set for the many admirers of B.B. King and his all-conquering blues guitar style.

I'm so happy! I originally heard this on vinyl 15 years ago - a friend found it in someone's collection and got it for free, I've dreamt of the day when I can own this - copies on tape with the vinyl hiss just don't cut it but the music on here is sensational, There's plenty of opportunity to pull your blues face at the perfect high notes on Lucille, It's a pure instrumental album with no singing at all and for me makes it so much better. Some of the tracks are what I'd call big band blues but they all fit nicely together with no weak tracks.Track 6, Slow Walk Aka Slow Burn has the coolest start to any blues track I've ever heard. If you're into the blues then this is for you. Pure class.......

The Most Melodious Blues Guitarist 27 Nov 2005
By Adam Bolton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I discovered this amazing treasure one typical hot, muggy Saturday morning amongst so much junk at the T&W Flea market in Pensacola, Florida back in the early 90s along with another brilliant BB King instrumental,"The Unexpected...Instrumental...Just Sweet Guitar", on the Kent label,(both on cassette then). If you think you appreciated BB's guitar style before, wait till you here either of these two. I had no idea BB was such a virtuoso, so whimsical and sweet is his playing here. I would love to know the background story from BB on these recording sessions. He seems utterly at ease and never more in harmony with his best girl,"Lucille".

After wading through so many,"Best of.." and subpar, uninspired (guitar-wise) replaying of the old standards, these intrumentals knocked me on my ass. I never knew. And I had been listening to BB for years. Any aspiring blues guitarist would do well to sit with these tunes for a few months.

You gotta have it 27 Oct 2008
By Standard Poodle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
For years I told folks of the existence of this - I had it on a United Superior pressing. Everyone always thought I was speaking of "Spotlight on Lucille" (which is great). Finally Ace puts this out and it is stunning. Great bonus tracks, great sound, all BB guitar - it really is a find. Only downside is Maxwell Davis' organ playing. I just listen "past" it.
BB's guitar playing is only part of his package, but with so little out there focused just on his guitar, this becomes essential.
Hey record companies: why not do an all instrumental album again NOW?
