Book Description

10 Oct 2001
These favorite Irish tunes have been arranged in sections of varying difficulty to provide material for beginning to advanced students. The first section of each arrangement is the easiest to play, with one or two more advanced sections following. Beginning students should be able to play the first section of these arrangements to produce a satisfying fingerstyle solo, while advanced players should be capable of playing the complete arrangement. This collection offers something to satisfy guitarists at all levels and yet challenge them at the same time. Written in notation and tablature with two tunes in dropped-D tuning, one with the A and E strings dropped to G and D respectively, and all other selections in standard tuning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, did they say easy? 18 Nov 2010
not easy ... but worth the effort mastering some of these classic tunes. And, you know what? After you've spent the time, effort and fingernails getting to grips with the basics, they ARE easy! Well worth it - nicely laid out, helpful cd .. what more could you want?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great intro for fingerstyle guitar! 24 Jun 2003
By R. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
This book requires a very basic knowledge of tuning and playing a guitar. No instructions are given for "learning" how to play a guitar. But once you have the basics down, the instructions and tabs are very easy enough to work through. Lisle has 2 or 3 levels of fingerstyle difficulty (beginner, intermediate, advanced) within each song, so once you have the easiest version down, you can grow into the next level. He uses standard EADGBE tuning, but has a couple of alternate tunings for a few songs, too. The CD is excellent to help with learning the songs, and it's just plain great to listen to! I was only a chord player (very much a beginner!) before this, but this has been a great step into fingerstyle playing. Songs: The Bantry Girls Lament, Dingle Regatta, The Banks of the Suir, The Doon, Father Kelly's Jig, Lanigan's Ball, The Liverpool Hornpipe, Merrily Kiss the Quaker, O Danny Boy, Red is the Rose, Star of the County Down, Wellington's Advance. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning/intermediate fingerstyle players who want to learn Celtic tunes 9 Nov 2006
By JC - Published on Amazon.com
I have learned about half the tunes in this book and I am enjoying it immensely. Many of the songs have easy and then more difficult passages, making it possible to match parts, or all, or each tune to the player's ability. What a great value, considering the purchase price and the many hours of learning, fun and satisfaction! The tablature is clearly written, with an accompanying CD for those who like to learn by ear as well as by tab. I highly recommend this book for beginning/intermediate fingerstyle players who want to explore Celtic tunes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent arrangements -- very accessible 13 Oct 2008
By P. S. Neeley - Published on Amazon.com

This is a collection of excellent fingerstyle arrangements. Most have a Part 'A' and a Part 'B' -- some have a part 'C'. The arrangements are progressively harder as you move from 'A' to 'C' but even 'C' is accessible to an intermediate player. 'A's are within reach of almost anyone who has played fingerstyle at least a little. I take exception to the review that stated that by buying this book you are `just paying for tab'. No. By buying this book you are getting some professional arrangements of Celtic fingerstyle pieces - these aren't that easy to find.
