Product Description

Product Description

This is a new title in "Young Reading Series Two", part of the Usborne Young Reading Programme, which is aimed at children whose reading ability and confidence allows them to tackle longer and more complex stories. This title is based on a Scandinavian fairytale. Asta's father gives her to a talking white bear in exchange for wealth and she is taken away to the bear's castle. But is there more to this bear than meets the eye? This title is developed in consultation with Alison Kelly, who is a senior lecturer in education and an early reading specialist from Roehampton University.

A very well told tale 21 July 2010
Format:Hardcover
Although this story is simply told, it is not without vocabulary that will extend children's understanding. The illustrations are quite beautiful and the overall quality of the book is outstanding - there's a bookmark for goodness sake, the girls in my class loved that! I am a great fan of ladybird books, indeed I own a large collection, however, Usborne have more than stolen a march on them, they have left them in the dust.

Enchanting 24 Sep 2011
By K. Rugg
Format:Hardcover
This was such a refreshing story, a Norse fairy tale, something different from the classics we already know, which have been too Disneyfied.
A beautiful story which left me wanting more, the Usborne young reader books are very abridged, so I downloaded the full version on my Kindle.

Format:Hardcover
Very nice and easy to read. I liked the story line. It was very classic. I liked the bit where Asta went into the cave.
