This album has it all...music that takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions. From the ever sad Boyz n the Hood, which still makes me cry, to the fun of Zabadoobeede and of cause it has more than its fair share of his incredible bass playing that almost made me give up and become a monk. In the past Stanley Clarke has been accused of self indulgence and pandering to a following that are "all bass players", if that is the case (and I don't think it is) he certainly has dispelled that myth with this album. I have played tracks from this album to many people, all of whom have said "Who is this and where can I get it?" This truly is an album to immerse yourself in and like Hideaway will go down as a collection of masterpieces.
If you would like to discuss this review or any of Stanley Clarkes other recordings please email me. It would be great to hear from you.

East River Drive is an incredibly accomplished piece of work by Stanley Clarke. Aside from being a bassist, Stanley Clarke is also classically trained, and it shows in the beautiful string sections in many of the tracks.
"Justice's Groove" is quite simply, as awesome track. Everyone I know who has heard this track has either bought the album or enquired about it. The title track "East River Drive" is possibly even better, even though it may not be as spectacular as "Justice's Groove".
This isn't just a Jazz album - it's a lot more than that. Put all your preconceptions about Jazz aside, and you will not regret it.

This has been a favourite album of mine for a very long time but until now only had it on cassette. Stanley Clarke is in a class of his own.

This is a great album. Some of the songs on the album clearly demonstrate the fact that Stan is not just a superb bass player but also a great musician. However, as somone who has listened to Stanley Clarke magic for the past 17 years I still prefer his old albums with my favourite being School Days.
