Product Description

Product Description

Todd Snider's East Nashville Skyline, his 4th Oh Boy Records release, is a collection of bold, sometimes unsettling, often funny songs about death, suicide, going to jail and growing old. Told in only the way Todd Snider can, with wry wit, unabashed honesty and a unique perspective. They're the kind of songs that make you laugh while hitting you in the gut. Produced by Todd Snider and longtime friend and band member Will Kimbrough, East Nashville Skyline features 9 brand new songs, 3 choice covers and liner notes by the man himself. This is some of Todd's best work yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 17 Feb 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I picked up on this album when Todd was a guest on Johnnie Walker's Radio Two show recently. There's so much going for this record - the songs are superb - both Snider's own compositions and the covers which nestle in superbly.
His lyrics are superb - if you're a fan of Steve Earle or John Prine then expect a cross between the two. Then again this album is so much more than that and perhaps shouldn't really be considered derivative of anyone else. Buy, play constantly and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Age Like Wine 5 Jan 2007
Format:Audio CD
Well, I've finally got around to reviewing this album. Like the opening song, it continues to "Age Like Wine"!

What makes a good album? Good melodies? Clever lyrics? Social observation? Political comment? In the case of this album, read "all of the above".

The melodies flow in a wonderful Country torrent and the lyrics vary from amusing ("Age Like Wine") through tragic ("Alcohol & Pills" & "Sunshine") to political ("Conservative Christian ...") and sociological ("Ballad Of The Kingsmen"). How can it fail?

Of course, it doesn't. Snider is clearly at the top of his game here. The observations in "Ballad Of The Kingsmen" are so on the nail it hurts. Here is a man with a great future in contemporary music. As with so many great albums, it missed commercial success but, believe me, this is one that anybody with a modicum of musical taste should own.

4.0 out of 5 stars for non-country fans 30 Mar 2005
Format:Audio CD
i also got this album because of his performance on the Jonnie Walker show on BBC Radio2.
his live performance of 'kingsmen' sounds just as livley as the recorded version on this album. I am not a country fan, but i am a nashville skyline fan now.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed. 9 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a brilliant album. Witty, warm, and melodic. It will cheer you up, make you think and get your toe tapping.
I'm not a big country fan and can't remember who recommended this to me, but I'm glad someone did.
If I had to label it I'd call it indie-country-americana.

Todd Snider seems to have lived a full life and has the talent and honesty to tell others about it. A singer, songwriter and story teller; a bit Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons, Jackson Browne, and maybe many others, but above all original and entertaining.
I love this, so does my partner. I hope you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant fresh album. Buy it!! 28 Feb 2008

Format:Audio CD
I bought this album after hearing one of the songs being played on internet radio. The album is awesome - raw sounding country by a singer who is genuine, funny, observant, intelligent, and moving - he deserves to be really famous. I am yet to hear his other albums but I can't wait to listen to those too, as this one is really great. There are a few good videos of him playing live online (on a certain famous video website), he is a great performer and a brilliant storyteller too.
It's hard to compare him to anyone, since the quality of his songwriting is so high, and also since I'm not familiar with that many other country singers - I guess the best I could say, it that he is kind of like a more thuggish and cheeky Loudon Wainwright.
Check this guy out, I'm sure you will warm to him instantly!
