Photographic travel journals are mostly executed in colour these days. Also their authors invariably try to give the impression that they truly understood people and places of their voyage. Not so Klavdij Sluban. He travelled far: from the Baltic Sea to China, using the Trans-Siberian, the Trans-Tibetan and other railways. Often his b/w-photos were taken from train windows. Gray and dark, very dark images are the result, and although this description sounds like a cliché, you get the feeling that you, the viewer, are enabled to deeply understand the atmosphere, the character of the places and the people. Yes, people are included, sometimes just a little spot in a vast landscape and then suddenly an almost lit up face appears in the darkness. This book contains strong images, well sequenced and with a poetic sound.
