The East Highland Way Treasure Map, 27 July 2011
This review is from: The East Highland Way: Fort William to Aviemore (Paperback)
I have just completed the East Highland Way using this book as my only guide, and it shows you exactly where to walk step-by-step. In fact it's fun reading the step-by-step instructions, like you're following a treasure map or something. It has recently been updated too (2011 edition), thus accurate.
The East Highland Way is a brilliant walk. A relatively new long distance path, it is becoming increasing well-known and popular amongst walkers, although its main charm is that you are still able to enjoy walking along gorgeous lochs and lochans, and through glens, without meeting another soul for miles and miles (you get the lucky feeling that you have all these places to yourself for the day). B&B and hostel owners will tell you however, of other walkers who also passed through a day or two before you.
The walks along the route are not difficult or demanding, so there is usually time left at the end of each day to still do some more sight-seeing. This walk guide also provides information on other things to do and places to visit in or around each area.
The East Highland Way takes you through areas in the Highlands where you will be most likely to see protected species, such as capercaille, red squirrels, and pine martens. This book also contains information on these birds and animals, and how you can help if you spot any of them (e.g. report wildcat sightings to help with population estimates of wildcats in Scotland).
Buy the book, do the walk, simples!

East Highland Way a great guidebook for a great walk!, 9 Feb 2012
This review is from: The East Highland Way: Fort William to Aviemore (Paperback)
Our business is walking holidays and the East Highland Way is one of our popular walks. The walk is not way marked and so the East Highland Way guidebook is an essential companion for our clients walking the Way. The book is water-proof - a must for a Scottish walk and pocket size for easy access and reference. The author, Kevin Langan, has gone to much effort to pack the book with excellent information on the history and wildlife that the East Highland Way passes through. The route notes are meticulous with OS grid references for each critical part of the trail. A must for the read even if you don't fancy the walk! PS it is a fabulous walk too!

Practical with background info, 29 Jan 2012
This review is from: The East Highland Way: Fort William to Aviemore (Paperback)
This is a very good walking guide - detailed route descriptions backed up with lots of interesting information about the surrounding area. There are plenty of good quality photographs, invaluable tips on how to plan the logistics of the walk (like overnight stays and food shops), the graphics are modern and eye-catching and the book itself is small enough to fit in any rucksack side-pocket. Can't wait to do the walk this Easter!
