As a mother of two, I knew the items I would need for our expectant third and set about buying the 'essentials' - steering well clear of all the 'gimmicky' mistakes I made as a first time mum! Once a month I love to indulge in a copy of 'Pregnancy & Birth' and saw an advertisement for 'Ewan the Dream Sheep'. I felt like it was too good to be true and surely a gimmick, but if you've ever had a colicky baby with reflux, who spends a long time in pain and vomiting, you will give anything a try!
Upon googling, I discovered he was available at Amazon and felt the price was just above the reasonable bracket for me so I set about researching further. There are some amazing video's on Youtube from people who have tried him out, all over the world, and the amazing results they have had. One baby was exactly like our previous and I watched as his little painful cries faded away as if by magic - it sealed the deal for me!
When Ewan arrived, I immediately fell in love.. he was soft and well made. No signs of stitching, no rough edges or cheap materials.. just an adorable face made with obvious love. I felt butterflies in my stomach thinking about showing this for the first time to my impending arrival!
I didn't need to read the instructions before playing.. each foot plays a different sound in a unique way to replicate how it would be heard in the womb. There's a beautiful harp piece of music and rain overlaid by a heartbeat, white noise.. just the sort of soothing sounds a baby needs to calm their overloaded minds. Ewan also features a beautiful pink soft light which can be turned off but also replicates how light would be seen in the womb. I think that's just trully amazing.
Once our baby arrived, we placed ewan in the moses basket by attaching his nifty velcro tail to the handles. There was no miracle moment where he immediately stopped crying and slept for 8 hours straight, but there was kicking of feet and a coo. It was beautiful. Ewan does not send our baby to sleep and I admit I actually never wanted that.. I dislike parents who use objects to babysit their children. What Ewan does for us, is help establish a bedtime routine. His white noise helps our baby to clear his head of the days excitement and is also now a signal that bedtime is coming and sleep is imminent!
I can't think of any other toy on the market that helps a child to wind down for bed without them lying bored in that awkward gap between feeding and sleep. Ewan has become a member of the family here, we really are that smitten.. and I think he may possily be a special friend that our baby will drag about as a toddler. I'm very glad I bit the bullet and made the purchase!
