Very very pleased with my Easiyo yogurt maker.

The principle behind making yogurt is simple - you take some milk, remove all background bacteria and introduce the yoghurt making bugs so they can get on with the job without any competition. Keep the mixture warm and a few hours later - voila - you have your yogurt.

Most yogurt makers are electric plug-in affairs but this one gets its heat from boiling a kettle. It is essentially a large thermos flask into which you pour boiling water, and then suspend a jar with the milk in it. Simple. Effective. No parts to break. Less to go wrong. I love it. It works for me and I am enjoying the results very much. Especially good with a drizzle of honey and a spot of nutmeg grated on top.

As I mentioned, its important that you start the process with no other bacteria around other than the yoghurt-making cultures. In more traditional yogurt making, this is achieved by bringing milk to a high heat for a while and then adding the culture when it has cooled.

Easiyo simplify your life by removing the need for pre-heating the milk. The machine is designed to be used with their packets of yogurt-starter mix. These include powdered milk in dry sterile form and the yogurt culture. So you add one of these packets to water, mix it up and put it in the flask. Very easy and produces nice results. However, I don't want to be committed to buying their sachets for ever. The good news is that the Easiyo works just as well if you use milk and a couple of spoons of existing yogurt to get it started.

If you use ordinary milk you do need to heat it through first to kill background bacteria. When it cools add a little carton of something like Yeo Valley and off you go.

Easy yogurt making indeed. In fact, the process couldn't be any simpler and it works a treat, allowing a wide range of delicious and nutritious yogurts to be made without fuss or mess.

The EasiYo yogurt maker is an inexpensive stand-alone unit comprising of the yogurt maker itself (a cylindrical plastic container measuring approximately 31 x 15 x 15 cm), a plastic yogurt jar (a smaller thinner cylindrical container) that makes 1 kg of yogurt at a time, and a baffle (a stand that sits inside the yogurt maker about halfway up on which the yogurt jar sits--also known as a spacer). And that's it. There's no mains power or batteries. [Please note that all EasiYo yogurt maker parts are polycarbonate free and contain no environmental hormones, and the yogurt maker is designed for constant handling so should last a long time with regular use.]

Once you have the yogurt maker all you need are the EasiYo yogurt sachets. These aren't strictly necessary but are the easiest option and obviously the one recommended by EasiYo. The sachets provide the live beneficial lactic yogurt cultures and milk needed to make the yogurt. Everything you need is in the sachet (apart from boiling water which you'll add later). The advantages of the EasiYo sachets is that they don't have any artificial ingredients (no stabilisers, preservatives, thickeners or artificial colours) and the premium milk powder is from free-range cows grazing on what EasiYo describe as the finest of green and clean pastures on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. They're suitable for vegetarians, are wheat and gluten free, are genetically-modified free, are a good source of calcium and protein, are naturally flavoured, and they taste very nice--at least all the ones I've tried, and other people agree.

Wanted one of these for ages as I can no longer afford to buy yogurt from the supermarket, but I don't use the easiyo packs, I use my own recipes. Take 850ml of long life milk, or heat same amount of cows milk, leave to cool, add half a cup dried milk powder, 130g bio yogurt to get started and to flavour I add 4 tablespoons milkshake powder, banana, srawberry or angel delight powder, I give it all a good mix in a large jug with a hand whisk and into the flask it goes. If its night time I wrap a thick towel round it as my kitchen is quite cold, and after about 8-9 hours I have thick set, beautiful flavoured creamy yogurt. For all yogurt lovers out please try this, but don't stick to easiyo packs, you can find great recipes on the internet.

Makes yoghurt making simple - and you can use any sterile 1 litre container which fits into the flask. Works well everytime, I make yoghurt with easyyo, or my own yoghurt, using UHT as one reviewer reccomends is a good idea. Making your own yoghurt saves about 2/3 of the cost of buying yoghurt from the shop and you know it is fresh. Easy Yo mixes are nice, but expensive.Buy with confidence.

I love yogurt. I eat loads and loads of it, and if I want to eat the good stuff I need to spend a considerable part of my weekly grocery budget. I never made yogurt prior to buying the Easiyo, but doing a bit of research online I found out about this system, and since everyone said it's pretty easy to use, I decided to go for it. The result is pure yumminess! I used 1 litre of UHT milk and 2 spoons of a greek yogurt from the supermarket [with live cultures inside]. I prepared it in the evening, and it was ready the next morning. No sachets because that wouldn't be clever for my yogurt budget reduction plan, and as everyone else said, no need to use any. No electricity involved apart from boiling a kettle of water. Firmness and texture were perfect. I will never be able to enjoy a pre-packed product again... If you are a yogurt lover like me, this is THE kitchen help you can't live without!
