As the name suggests, this is the first in a series of 3 exquisitely illustrated books. Housing design that is both 'sustainable' and economically viable is of crucial importance given the state of today's society - few people can afford good housing, and the earth itself can only afford a few houses more. Earthships provide a solution for both of these issues, providing healthy, clean homes that are easy on the pocket and the planet. On top of this, the houses produced are also immensely aesthetically pleasing, looking akin to homes more commonly found in fairytales. I strongly recommend this book as a starter for anyone willing to take responsibility for their own enviromental impact.

What a mind blowing technique of building houses. Mike currently evolve the techniques even further. Hope Mike update this book soon with the latest developments. However a must in any Earthship (Eco house) builder's library.

This book covers the fundamentals for a very realistic future home/ living solution. I found this very inspiring. Considering many important issues we face in our day to day life as human beings, this idea could well transform the way we live today, for the better of course. A home which can be built from our waste, using tyres and earth, bottles and cans, who would believe it? After reading this, I can. It's brilliant! Well thought out, this home can provide free heat, free water , free power, organic food, and space. It also looks surprisingly attractive on the inside. With today's knowledge, we could really turn this concept into a reality for future village dwellings. Great book, providing the fundamentals required to build a very self sufficient green home. Well Done!!
