5.0 out of 5 stars Bizarre and amusing. 5 July 2008
Format:Paperback
My 14-year old son was given this book as a present and really loves it. It is a chunky book with a textured cover that has raised silver bumps all over. It is really amusing and reminds me of books such "Ripley's Believe It or Not", "Guinness Book of Records", Russell Ash's "Top Ten of Everything" and Steve Wrights "Book of Factoids".

It is packed with amusing and unusual facts and lists, such as odd laws that are still current around the world or amounts spent per head on alcohol in different countries. It has lots of pictures of weird and wonderful things, such as bizarrely tattooed people and crazy clothes for dogs. It lists firsts, such as the first animal in space or the first car accident. It has plenty of pictures with fairly brief captions and short pieces of text segmented visually to make reading easy.

I would say it is a great book to dip in and out of and just read small pieces at a time. It is very absorbing and doesn't become boring because it covers such a diverse range of subjects. It is just that little bit different from the books mentioned above, has stacks of info that is well presented and looks fab.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amusing and interesting read! 11 Dec 2011
Format:Hardcover
Read this from cover to cover, delving in every so often. Both interesting and humourous, the articles cover a wide range of subjects; some stuff you know, most stuff you didn't know and (occasionally) some stuff you definitely didn't want to know! All in all, a light-hearted look at the world we live in.

2.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for the Adult content ! 31 Mar 2009
By CCG13
Format:Paperback
This is a great book - but be warned its Guiness Book of Records for Grown Ups ! - not for 10 - 11 year olds ! - I had hoped I had found the perfect boy birthday present - something like Guiness Book of Records, but not, cause everyones got that. It is a great book - and very like the Guiness Book of Records but MUCH more riskey - womans face sliced off by lawnmower - really gruesome urban myths - extremely interesting body piercing .... - A great book 14+ - but the look, feel and forward of the book just doesnt give this away - it really isnt suitable for a 10 year old !
