Stunning!!!! 5 Mar 2004
Format:Audio CD
If you like your rock riffage, fast and meaty and your lyrics as acerbic and cutting as a "Spitting Image" sketch, yet you want a hook you could catch Moby Dick on, then this is DEFINATELY the album you need. This is such an under-rated chunk of British rock at its absolute best. Every single track on this album is bursting at the seams with quality and craftsmanship, and best of all, you feel fantastic after hearing them. You cannot help but bop around and sing along to this collection of stompers.
TV Tan boasts one of THE great lines in music..."20 Regal and a four pack / I guess I'm set for the night", Whilst "Baby is a Headf***" features some blistering guitarwork (and also features the late, great Mick Ronson). This is a rock album that stands up there with "Appetite For Destruction" and has not dated since its original release some 10 years ago. It's that good even girls like it!!! Buy it, play it and smile...a lot!!!!

...this album was the best 34,99 DM I ever spent way back in 1993. I read the previous reviews, and can only reinforce what they said. This is probably my favourite album ever, the soundtrack of my youth. Biased, you say, and you may be right, but I'm rather critical, and every once in a while I get it out, put it on, am sucked in and enthused still, putting it back on my shelf after 50 minutes with the affirming knowledge that some things are great and stay great, no matter what. If you love the spirit of rock, like your geetar ruff and your harmonies heavenly, don't hesitate. Get it. (Oh, and checking out Silver Ginger 5 would be no mistake either...)

The Wildhearts deserved to conquer the world but fate was not so kind. Criminally overlooked they are a gem for rock music. Now they have reformed and judging by their current singles, they will be able to rock us all again very soon!
"Earth Vs The Wildhearts" just edges it as their best album. Following on from the successfull structure laid down on the 'Don't Be Happy...Just Worry' E.P, this is the absoloute perfect mix of rock and pop. The vocals and melodies force you to sing/shout along at the top of your voice, and all the songs are instantly catchy.
However, The Wildhearts also worship the power of the Riff, and songs like 'Greetings..', 'Love U Till I Don't', 'Suckerpunch' and 'News Of The World' rock as hard as early Metallica while mainting a Cheap Trick accessability.
If possible try to get the re-issued version of this album which includes 'Caffeine Bomb' as that song storms along at 200mph! "Earth Vs.." maintains the FUN factor in huge amounts. As their career darkened so did the feel of the music (while still managing to produce excellent albums and progressing musically). "Earth Vs..." represents classic Wildhearts at their peak.
While it would be essentially true to say that this album boasts the power of Metallica, the guitar squall of Guns 'N' Roses and the catchyness of Cheap Trick, it would also be unfair. The Wildhearts are a style all to themselves. Fun, powerful, and rock at its finest.
