Product Description

Product Description

This book continues to focus on Earth, but from the point of view of the physical planet under our feet. It explores the Earth's surface and subsurface, including how rocks are formed, the structure of the Earth, volcanoes, earthquakes, and how the surface changes with time giving rise to ocean floors, continents and mountains. It considers the Earth as a solid rocky planet within the Solar System and compares it with other bodies. It also looks beyond the Solar System to consider the Earth's place within it.

Good overview 23 Aug 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the second course book for an Open University foundation course in science. It covers geology and astronomy. As with other OU course-books, there are questions and activities to check your understanding as you go along, with answers and comments at the back. Some of the activities require access to materials only available if you are a registered student, and this slightly limits the usefulness of the book to others. But it is still a good, and clearly-written, overview.
