Product Description

The result of a five-year airborne odyssey across five continents and 60 countries, Earth from Above is the most revealing and spectacular portrait of our world ever created. From a heart-shaped mangrove forest in New Caledonia to a flock of red ibises in Venezuela, from a caravan of camels in Mauritania to Mt. Everest and Mammoth Hot Springs, renowned aerial photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand presents striking color images that put our home planet in a whole new perspective. Produced under the sponsorship of UNESCO, the book is also a documentary record of the state of the world's fragile environment.

This vibrant new edition of the internationally acclaimed original features an updated design and nearly 60 stunning new photographs. All new captions and the addition of authoritative new texts by experts in various environmental fields illuminate Arthus-Bertand's monumental achievement.

This book opens up your eyes to a whole new world (Quite literally), through his use of brilliant arial photgraphs Yann Arthus Bertrand shows us a side of planet earth, tender, multicoloured, bright, dark and magical that in all likelihood has never been documented before. Some of these photos are truly amazing, making you yearn to visit the actual places and absorb some of the wonderous beauty that emanates through the pictures.

Personally I believe that every person that appreciates photography must own a copy, as should anyone with a passing interest in how our planet works, looks, feels and breathes.

Frankly it's a wonder that we pass much of this beauty by evryday or when on holiday.

From the densely populated cosmopolitan cities to the inner reaches of the Sahara, passing through the atoles of the pacific and the minarets of the Middle East this book will make you fly through an unimaginable landscape.

A brilliant buy.

This is truly an amazing collection.....challenging one's prespective of the planet Earth! We truly live on an amazing planet and it is not often that we get a chance to stop, think, and appreciate all the beauty around us!
I visited the exhibition (thrice) at the Natural History Museum in London, and I strongly recommended the exhibition, and the book. An absolute must see/have!!

True escapism... 13 Nov 2009
Format:Hardcover
Years ago, there was an exhibition of these photographs which i used to walk past on my way to work. I was late almost every day that it was there, because there was always something new which would catch my eye, and make me stop.

I came across this collection again quite recently, and again fell in love. I hinted for a while, hoping i might fet this book as a present, but i think i may have been too subtle, as it never emerged... I finally gave in and bought this book myself, and it is the best present i ever bought myself.

Any time that i feel sad, or dragged down by the monotony of the everyday, i open this book. The photographs are truly mesmerising, and for me, very therapeutic.
