My passion for the early years arose when I was a health visitor and started to realise how much I didn't know! I gained a Masters Degree at the Tavistock Clinic/University of East London and then obtained my PhD at the same institution. My research was on the period of development between 8 months and a year - a truly magical time! My studies, research and interest are all mainly focused on the importance of the early years especially the emotional welfare of the baby and very young child and hope this passion is reflected in my books.
In the past I have been a nurse in a hospice and spent six months working in Calcutta with Mother Theresa's nuns - an eye opening and very humbling experience. The dignity and self respect of people who lived in the most basic conditions taught me a great deal.
At the moment, I have retired following the death of my beloved husband whom I miss terribly. However, I do remain interested and passionate about the needs of children. My other interests are walking my dog Toby and I enjoy meals out with friends. I am also trying my hand at knitting - not very successfully but will keep having a go!
