Review

"I have been waiting for a text like this for many years! Until now most of the child development texts I have recommended to the students have been publications from the USA and, even though I have found them to be useful, it is a great pleasure to be able to recommend this one to them. It is a well structured and comprehensively written book."
-- Carolyn Silberfeld, University of East London

"`Early Childhood Studies' is an interdisciplinary text book which supports study in Further Education, Higher Education and can be used as an excellent aid in supporting continuous professional development of practitioners. How ingenious that a text can attract, engage and inform such a large audience. I highly recommend this excellent text especially the unique reflective tasks and the tools for learning sections." -- Dawn Alderson, Swansea University

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very academic! 8 April 2010
By Chaplin
Format:Paperback
I was quite appalled by this book, whilst using it for my degree in Early Childhood Studies. It quotes such things as Wikipedia and Homer Simpson.. not what I bought a text book for! It is alright to get a basic overview of theories and people but I would not recommend this over other books on early childhood studies, which are cheaper and far more comprehensive.

A very well written book, which is easy to understand and includes all referencing details. It is well presented with some lovely inspirational quotes at the beginning of each chapter. It contains reflective activities to summarise each chapter, which I find very helpful. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone starting any type of degree in early years or childhood studies.
