A comprehensive selection of images. Some very unusual and interesting motifs, most of which I am finding useful, but there are also several pages which I doubt I'll ever use. Dividing the images into catagories makes it easy to find what you want. This book is a good general resource, and I am sure I will still be using it in years to come

Bought this as needed old-fashioned pics of everyday items (teapots, hats, fruit and veg) to post on a website - there's a great selection and my designer was delighted. So much so that she's pinched it. The only disadvantage of the format is that in order to do a really good scan you need to cut the pages out so now it looks a bit bedraggled.

To be honest I would have liked a bit of a preview before buying this book. I was a bit disappointed with the images inside. Not of the quality, but of the range of images. I was expecting more (perhaps false hope) of a variety of images, perhaps because of the cover. It's more than good enough for my needs, but I think had I seen inside it first I may not have purchased it unless it was cheaper.

Nonetheless, this is a well made book (even though the copy I received was very 'used' even though that wasn't what it said in the description!) the images are easy to copy and use and I'm sure it will be put to good use in the future!

Interesting illustrations, but a lot of repetition 12 Jan 2013

Lots of cool illustrations, but sometimes a whole page can be filled with the same exact illustration with varying sizes (and they can get really small, like 1 inch--not kidding). So I found the 3,800 illustrations a bit misleading, as maybe a hundred of them or more are repeats. It's definitely not 3,800 unique drawings. A lot of them are really small drawings too. So, eh, it's okay.

This book is overflowing with wonderful images. I bought it to use in my collages & it's perfect. There's just about anything you'd want inside this book... farm animals, birds, flowers, fish, transportation, furniture, food, hats, military, music, etc, etc. It is full of bunches of delicious & delightful images!

Beware 27 Nov 2011
By dayzee - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Clip art may not mean what you think it does. I own several Dover collections of 19th Century clip art, which I have used in collage work. Though it says "copyright free" and "royalty free" on the covers and in every description, I recently noticed that all my Dover clip art books have a small paragraph on the copyright page that limits usage of the images (this page does not appear in the sample pages on Amazon), and it does not make allowances for users who alter the images. I contacted Dover for clarification on the issue and received a form letter that basically repeated what was in the book. They will not talk to you by phone. I thought that because these images were originally in the public domain and because I paid Dover for the book, and because I significantly altered the images, I wasn't doing anything wrong. However, I recently talked with a lawyer and was not reassured. I am still looking for answers on this, but I am not buying any more Dover books until I know more.
