About the Author
A former journalist, Dr David Hume MBE was co-founder of the Broadisland Gathering, the longest-established Ulster Scots family festival in Northern Ireland, author of several historical studies and is a regular contributor to the Ulster Scot Agency newspaper. He was awarded the MBE for services to the community in Ballycarry and Larne in 2007, is Director of Services of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, a post he has held since 2003 and in 2011 he was appointed as a member of the Ministerial Advisory Group on the Ulster Scots Academy.
