Product Description

Product Description

AN EAGLE IN THE AIRING CUPBOARD picks up where Rex Harpers first book, AN OTTER ON THE AGA, left off. It follows the fortunes of the Cornish RSPCA centre through one of its most testing twelve months. Once more it is a mixture of funny, touching and sometimes moving animal stories. And once more it features a cast of unforgettable characters, like Alfie and Blue, two hideously mistreated greyhounds that are rehabilitated at the farm, as well as the return of old favourites from Rex's first book, including his loyal dog Moss. Throughout, Rex evokes the sights, smells, sounds and spirit of the Cornish countryside in all its timeless beauty. He also encounters sickening cases of animal cruelty committed by humans unfit to care for any living thing. Funny, warm and evocative, it is a book that is, once more, set to melt and occasionally break the hearts of animal lovers everywhere.

About the Author

Rex Harper set up home in Cornwall in 1958 after serving in the RAF as a police dog handler. He worked in a local woollen mill and post office whilst building up his farm with his wife Julie, becoming the full-time RSPCA warden of the Perranporth centre in 1987. He was awarded the MBE for services to animal welfare in 2003.

The Good Man 24 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback
I read Rex Harper's first book and loved it. The second pleased me everybit as much. I can almost smell the west of England in every sentence. The book is the result of expertise and kindness. Rex has both in abundance . If you love animals and birds and every crawling creature and are interested in their welfare then this is a book that you really should read. I think I benefitted almost as much from reading this as the rescued creatures did when their paths crossed with Rex Harper's.

How Refreshing... 28 April 2010
By TJ
Format:Paperback
What a refreshing read. Well written and heartwarming stories. I personally could not put this book down and read it within a day. Highly recommended if you are in to animals and wish to find out more regarding how the RSPCA operate. This is the second book I have read in the series and am now looking forward to the third book which will hopefully be forthcoming in the not too distant future!
