I was really debating buying this or the much more expensive Lastolite kit, which included the stand and a short handle to hold the box yourself which retails around £180.

I chose to buy this and a cheap (£11) stand and how happy am I?

I am an amateur photographer, experimenting with portrait shots using a set of Cannon 580exII's off camera.

Having not seen the Lastolite this is only a speculation but I am SO impressed with the quality of this product I wouldn't be surprised if it was either a direct copy of the lastolite or made by the same company in China and just not badged as lastolite...

Whilst I don't necessarily agree with product fakes and copies, I also really object to being ripped off and the cost of the lastolite product, even allowing for R&D costs is a joke.

The softbox head its self is of excellent construction, lightweight and well made. It performs its function perfectly well. The outer white diffusion screen even has velcro on the outside which I assume means you can use the available grid ad-ons available for other higher priced units (although you would need to check this!
Taking note from other reviews that this is difficult to re-pack, when I opened and unfolded the softbox I watched how it opened and took a few moments to immediately close it and open it again, I now understand how to pack and unpack and didn't need videos or instructions. Please note, like modern hike tents this is made from sprung poles, so if you take it out of the carry bag and just let go it will spring open and as with one reviewer it will smack you in the face. Just take a moment to look at how you twist the short end (into a figure of eight) and fold in half and it all makes sense.

Speaking as a professional, this is a fantastic piece of kit which I have just field tested in conjuction with a Nikon SB-900 during a location shoot in Brussels with superb results! For travel purposes, it is unbelievably compact and light (it will fit in your hand baggage) and is extremely well made.

If this equipment carried the Bowens or Lastolite brand, it would be seen as good value at double the price, so if you are looking for a portable lighting solution at a budget price, don't hesitate!

Alan Cox.

At the beginning I was a bit surplice as I was unable to the get the head of my flash inside the softbox when the flash was attached to my Yongnuo YN-622C Wireless trigger, but after moving my head flash around I did found a solution for this issue:

If you want the flash head inside the softbox you need to reverse the flash head 90 degrees (lateral fitting) or 180 degrees (reverse the flash);Doing this you will be able to get a correct fit of the flash inside the softbox using any kind of trigger.

The quality of the product so far is very good and the pictures obtained with it lock great.

Overall it's a nice bit of kit to have, for ~ £50 delivered I can't complain at all, looks quite professional.

If you need instruction on how to set up the softbox just type "softox speadlight" in YouTube.

Cia.

I was not expecting much from this product, I thought for the price, it would be half as good as Lastolite, where prices are simply crazy for what they produce, i was surprised, the bracket is good quality steel, and it has a built in rachet tilt head, which Lastolite wants to sell you separately, what I immediately fell in love with is the portability of this softbox, everything fits in a neat little carrying case, with a handle on top, if you look at Lastolite similar size softboxes, they are very difficult to fit into your airline luggage if you are going overseas, or want to take a couple of soft boxes with you for off camera flash, this little neat carrying case is just the job, the soft box itself, goes further than Lastolite and folds up very similar to a background, and into a very small pouch, a bit fiddly at first, but you do get the hang of it eventually, your bracket and hot shoe go in the case separately, and it has 2 diffusers, the whole thing can be packed away in a couple of minutes, i have to say on one word "Impressed" with a photo light stand for about a tenner, the whole thing is about £60.00 try and compare that with a lasto Lite kit, costing £170.00.

One final thought, it almost looks the same as Lasto Lite Kit, but without any brand name on it....strange could be made by same manufacturer, go ahead and purchase with confidence, you won't be dissapointed.

Great value softbox compared other named brand equivalents, well made, and though not shown in the images here it has an inner baffle too, which helps to diffuse the light more evenly. Would recommend to anyone looking for a softbox for use with a flashgun.

Not one for leaving reviews, but after having a bad experience with this item I thought id share my experience.

I recently purchased the 60cm EZ-Fold Studio Softbox on the basis it had great reviews for being a good quality softbox.

I used it for the 1st time yesterday and it soon became apparent the quality isn't as good as I was lead to believe. The softbox itself has only been opened & closed twice, and on the second time of opening one of the 4 edges has warped out of shape, leaving a saggy and skewed softbox.

I also went to attach my flash onto the cold shoe to find the half the threads on the screw have perished, meaning I can't even attach my flash to the bracket.

I contacted the seller who was very professional, issued me a full refund, I have now ordered the 54cm Joe Mcnally one for £105.
