This is why I like the Amazon MP3 store - 57 unmixed tracks and 3 mixes for £8, you really can't ask for more, and there's some real classics from UK Garage's vaults, this is a must-have! Thankfully there's no commercial stuff like Rewind by Artful Dodger, but the more underground Whatya Gonna Do, which featured Craig David, there's also the excellent mix by Armand Van Helden for CJ Bolland's classic, Sugar Is Sweater which is pretty good in itself, as the CD single costs a fortune. Other greats which I always enjoy include Y-Tribe's R&B tinged Enough is Enough; Colour Girl's rather emotional Joyrider; Double 99's bass ridden RIP Groove and many many more.

This has to be the best compilation by Ministry of Sound in ages, you actually get the full mix rather than radio edits and it's all there unmixed, so if you're an MP3 DJ you can put them into your software and re-do the mix EZ did. This is quite good fun for the practice.

Some tracks I didn't really like were the more commercial tracks, like So Solid Crew and the tracks by Control S as I felt they were rather samey and didn't really add much to the compilation.

The 3 mixes are not bad, but EZ insists on mixing them in for long periods of time, where as a DJ would go for 16 bars, he's going for like 32, and it doesn't sound good due to the sound clashes. The mixes are good, but he insists on using the spinback too much and it's not that cool after a few - otherwise he makes good use of the tracks available.

This is well worth a go, but be warned about 4 tracks didn't work, and Amazon have had to get back to me on when they will be fixed :(

I bought this album in hope that the songs were full versions 'unmixed'...I was totally wrong. It does not say 'mixed' on the front cover, which is misleading. You would think that by now, EZ would release a collection of his best selected tracks in full versions...but No. This is yet another Pure Garage 'fill in the #' compilation...with lots of EZ gimmicks. Is this guy a real DJ or what? The use of digital fx has it's place, but not throughout the whole collection (spin backs, phasers, filter sweeps...Zzz), providing less of the song itself. The songs are hardly 'Garage Essentials' by any measure. I have never heard of 'S Control'...definately not a classic UK garage / 2 Step act. Thing is, Pure Garage 1-5 were good in the days when club style mixing on a cd was appreciated over full length songs. But Garage music is no longer commercial or widely popular...so why even bother? This album should not be called The Essential Garage Collection...cox it's really not. So many great tracks missing from the likes of Wideboys, Sunship, X Men, Ed Case, Architechs, Wookie, MJ Cole, Bump & Flex, Dubaholics, K Warren, etc..oh well.

Wow. This took me right back. It made me feel everyone of my thirty years! It had been a while since I'd heard some of these songs and they really cheered me up. I was driving and singing and bopping up and down My children loved it too. At ten and a year old, I'd say that that makes this one for all ages!
