Synopsis

There's more to success than having a high IQ - emotion plays its part too. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is increasingly being adopted as an essential management skill. EQ consists of five key dimensions: knowing one's emotions; controlling ones emotions; recognizing emotions in others (empathy) controlling emotions in others; and self motivation. This book provides practical guidelines and examples on how to use EQ to enhance personal and corporate performance.

EXECUTIVE EQ is an explicit book, full of examples to support the presented theory. Briefly, the theory is that Emotional Intelligence means being in touch with one' s feelings, open to the information they offer and using this information appropriately and creatively. The goal of applying emotional intelligence is to find not only inner balance and unite all our inner "ingredients" into a consistent whole but also to use feelings to be more creative, adaptable and effective professionally. The book definitely provides crucial information on emotions, regarding their recognition, purpose and usefulness, and way of "handling", both in business and private life. It is a real "eye-opener" on the way we view and deal with all aspects of everyday life. However, it is more applicable practically to the american way of life than that of the Mediterranean people. Also, its examples are mainly drawn from U.S.A. and the Far East rather than Europe or Ancient Greek culture. Overall, I would recommend it as an important and useful book on the application of Emotional Intelligence in business to all professionals who realize the importance of and want to be human at work, who want to be appropriately "professional" at home and in personal life, and -above all- always and everywhere peaceful and in harmony with who they really are.

This book gives a heart to emotional intelligence. It describes what it is and how to get there, in fascinating detail. More than that, it inspires you to want to develop your own emotional intelligence and makes it very possible. If only all business books were written like this!
