Pure have a good reputation, and the Evoke-3 lives up to expectations for quality sound, good construction and looks, and lots of features that are easy to use. Buying this 'evokes' the same feelings as when I got Sky+ ('this is easy / useful / brilliant'.)
I particularly like:
setting different wake up times for weekdays and Sat/Sun - no more waking at 6am on Saturday 'cos you forgot to change the alarm.
Setting which station you wake to, regardless of which one you were listening to the night before.
Big display so you see all the station information at once, rather than on a scrolling single line as with other DAB units. (BTW, you CAN set the display to 'no light' in standby, and when you touch the handle to see the time in the dead of night, it's no harsher on the eyes than an ordinary alarm clock with a snooze light).
Electronic programme guide lets you see what's on, just like Sky - very useful for Radio 4 addicts.
Remote control so you don't have to leap across the bedroom to change volume or station, and so you can select numbered preset stations.
Pause/instant replay for when the phone rings, or if you didn't quite catch a comment or piece of information.
'Favourites' feature that learns which stations you listen to most, and presents them first when you want to change channel.
Recording a programme is easy (just like Sky+ as others have said) although it's even easier to 'Listen Again' via the BBC website. Overall it's a good piece of kit: not cheap but as with most technology, you get what you pay for. If you want a DAB radio alarm with lots of useful features, buy with confidence.
