Tracing Historical parallels 27 April 2011
By Christopher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
While this book is indeed written by a seminary professor, and is apparently targeted at clergy, I had no trouble following it. I am neither a seminary student nor clergy.

The book examines doctrinal controversies in the Associate Church of Scotland, especially after its merger with the Relief Church to form the United Presbyterian Church (which shouldn't be confused with the denomination of the same name in the United States), and in the Free Church of Scotland before the turn of the 20th Century. Hamilton then applies the lessons learned to the current ecclesiastical environment in the US, especially in the Presbyterian Church in America. His concern is clearly of doctrinal drift in that denomination. Being of an orthodox Reformed perspective myself, I think Hamilton's parallels ring true.

While not necessary for reading this book, some of the historical sources are available on Amazon. Hamilton frequently cites History of the Atonement Controversy: In Connexion with the Seccession Church and History Of The Secession Church (1839).
For Seminary Grads Only 21 April 2011
By Bryan Huffstutler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was looking for a book about John Calvin and how the Reformed Church may have abandoned his interpretation of the Bible. After Chapter 1 of this book, I was lost in seminarial nomenclature that needed researching just to understand the references of the author. It is clearly a book written by a seminarian to/for seminarians. Probably a great book if your a minister or priest.
