DVD Description

Chicago's County General opens its doors for more highly-charged drama, in series nine of the Emmy-winning show ER. While some of the faces have changed over the years, the core of the show--a fast moving medical drama packed with rounded, strong characters--is very firmly intact.
This 3-disc box set features all 22 episodes of the ninth season. Dramatic highlights include a shocking encounter with a helicopter for Dr Romano (played by Paul McCrane), an emotional return to the ER for Dr Corday (Alex Kingston) after her bereavement and the ongoing love triangle between Dr Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney), Dr John Carter (Noah Wyle) and Dr Luka Kovac (Goran Visnjic). The season finishes with a change of pace, as Carter travels to meet Kovac in Africa and risks his life voluteering to help victims of the Congolese Civil War, which is both gritty and moving.
Originally broadcast in 2002, these episodes still feel just as fresh as the day they were originally transmitted, as ER continues to maintain its quite amazing run of form. Whether new to the show or a long-time fan, there’s plenty to enjoy here.

4.0 out of 5 stars ER: Season 9, 28 Mar 2008
By Luke Shelton (Bury, Manchester) - See all my reviews
Whilst being seen as the beginning of the end as such, season 9 is still in no way inferior television. It begins very fast paced, and you actually feel sorry for Romano, who shines this season as a well acted but also very funny character. Abby's family problems are once again a major part of the season, no bad thing as Sally Field is excellent as usual. Mekhi Phifer really fits in well, and I have to admit that Carter's acting skill has definitely improved. To the point where I enjoyed his performances.
And I strangely like Susan Lewis. Her latter storyline is a bit weird, but overall she was very good. And there was a fire this season, at Doc Magoo's, ensuring my 'one fire a season' theory remains in place.
I suggest you buy it. No real extras, except for deleted scenes, but regardless, buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant on its own, but not in comparison, 30 Oct 2007
By H. E. Dawes (beds, uk) - See all my reviews

if you have been a fan of the seven previous series be aware that this is the beginning of the decline in ER. I am a huge fan of this show, but i found this series not as entertaining as the others. The Carter and Kovac in Africa story line was barely entaining, but only educating. However, i am not saying that it is bad. ER is brilliant, fast paced, exciting and educating. Series seven is the best, but i still like this series for abby and pratt!
