The Electric Light Orchestra's ambitious yet irresistible fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements, and futuristic iconography rocketed the group to massive commercial success throughout the 1970s. ELO was formed in Birmingham, England in the autumn of 1970 from the ashes of the eccentric art-pop combo the Move, reuniting frontman Roy Wood with guitarist/composer… Read more in Amazon's E.L.O. 5.0 out of 5 stars Rockaria, 27 Jun 2011

What can you say about the music except excellent. The only back thing that can be said about this is the repackaging of the greatest hits album. Yehp you guessed it - this is it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable and a fascinating insight into the genesis of the ELO phenomenon, 2 Mar 2007

This review is from: Collection (Audio CD)
I bought this CD recently along with "On the 3rd Day" and "Face the Music" in a fit of nostalgia and I must say it is the one I have enjoyed the most. It is a combination of the first two albums and also "Showdown" which surfaced on the third (a personal favourite of John Lennon apparently, as ELO were dubbed the "new Beatles" with their strings enhanced music). The sound is raw and the strings high in the mix especially on tracks like the strident "Battle of Marston Moor". Other standout tracks are the singles "Showdown" and "Mr. Radio", and "Roll over Beethoven" is tremendously exciting. Best of all is the gorgeous "Momma" which hints at great things to come for the Jeff Lynne led ELO.
