Gerard Butler has his best role to date playing real life person Sam Childers, a down and out in America who is hooked on drugs and involved in dealing them. Things come to a head when he ends up brutally stabbing a hitchhiker who tries to attack him and his friend, and dumping his body on the side of the road. He looks to his wife, a born again Christian for help and his life evolves in more ways than one....
In a very realistic portrayal of the crisis in Sudan, understandably this is a heartbreaking film especially because the barbarism still continues today, however Gerard Butler's character breaks that up with his inspirational speeches and drive. He reinforces that sense of urgency about not sitting in some board room talking, but about 'taking action'.
All in all, a must see film!
