Retreading familiar ground from the first of the Bloodwars books, we are introduced to another new Necroscope and his struggle to adapt to his new powers. For those of us who enjoyed Harry and Nathan's struggles this is all good stuff, although it is very familiar territory..

The supporting cast however really come into their own (and not just the Wamphyri!). Trask, Lardis and Goodly all struggle with the reluctant Necroscope in a book filled with action, drama, 3 great new vampires, and a great ramp into the next book Defilers.

I had been waiting for the next Brian Lumley book eagerly for some time and I was not disappointed. In fact I couldn't put the book down! An excellent read and even if you haven't read any of his other books you should still enjoy it. Some of the old familiar characters are here but also a few new ones which prevents the series from becoming stale. Brilliant!
