Product Description

History-distorting fantasy, full of puns and jokes, a real contender in the Pratchett market.

To save space, the spiralling population of the world has been shrunk, then, to acclimatize to the shock, put to sleep for five hundred years. However, while they have slept, certain computer mice have not — with disastrous results for the banks of data stored in preparation for the great wake-up.

A certain brave group of pioneers, who think they are in possession of the only true history of the world, prepare to voyage back in time in order to sort things out…

From the Back Cover

MOUSE ATTACK!

Mice have eaten a whole page from one of the only three surviving books in England: 'Mavis Greer’s Guide to Easter Party Catering', a vital source of scholarly information about the pre-sleep.

FLY ATTACK!

Houseflies the size of cathedrals continue to get through London’s defences, and the word is they are getting bigger …

E.L.V.!

Trafalgar Hurlock is about to be drafted into the Evolution Limitation Volunteers, who must travel back in time to an era when houseflies were smaller, and bring back some samples of their DNA.

But even if he can make a time machine that works, can Trafalgar rely on the mouse-riddled datastores to guide him through history?

Find out now … and then … now!

This has to be one of the most ingeniously hilarious sci-fi books that I have ever read. Nielsen takes the standard way that you think while reading books and twists it inside out with masterful effect. The first chapter will force your brow to flex into a confused frown and then lift itself when you finally realise what is going on. Buy it, Read it and ENJOY it!

ELV is the funniest book I have read in a long time! It has such a wierd, wacky and completely mad storyline that you can't put it down, but you would probably not want to read if you read the blurb. It is basically about people years and years in the future, who know nothing about life before the 'Great Sleep' where everyone but a few scientists went to sleep, while the world was made a better place. Unfortunately, the world was instead left with giant houseflies and evil computer-mice! Yes, I know, but just give it a try, it's great!!!

Almost as Good! 10 Nov 2000

The First ELV book in the series was, really, pretty hard to outshine, with it's confusing but very exciting storyline and hysterical characters. But Nick Nielsen's second installment does actually come pretty close! You know what they say, sequels are never as good as the original, which is mostly true. But this book makes a good, truly enjoyable read, without comparing it to the first. Again it is full of time travel and references to parts of history that it's characters do not understand, which can be very funny. Now onto the third, then...
