Brilliant 20 April 2012
By Smudge
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Again I must give all created to the kindle device to exposing me to yet another brilliant author. I bought this kindle eBook no less than 24 hours ago, and I Have finished this page turner already. Simply put I loved this book from start to finished, the fight scenes both ground level, and space. Were described in a way that gave full detail to let you're imagination run wild with using the simplest to the point language.

I only have one issue really, that in my eyes a not major, but important aspect for one of the characters, and I feel it deserved a little more time for that character to fully explore and absorb towards the end. However on the whole I still give this 5 out of 5. For a book that held me glued to it and finished in just one sitting deserves no less.

I have already purchased the second one, and will seriously consider the other book.

Wow! Ian Smethurst is one amazing author! The guy can definitely pack a punch!

Trust me--if you love Sci-Fi at all--AT ALL--or even if you don't, then pick up this book anyway. You'll be on the edge of your seat the second you launch and won't be able to let go until you turn the last page. Thrilling, engaging, intense.

One of the easiest, fastest paced books I've read in a long time--with insane battle scenes as well! I felt I was right there with the Michael and Nikolai every step of the way. Like watching a movie.

So uh, where's the next one? I want every book in this series!

Once Long Cliche' 30 April 2012
By Platypusdude - Published on Amazon.com

Once again I found myself suckered by reviewers giving rave reviews to an e-book, only to find the reviews were WAY off base. The EDF Chronicles was painful to read with no originality, wooden characters, inane dialogue and clichés abounding. List of clichés: Aggressive alien lizard species...check. Said alien species dine of internal organs and drink bile...check. Said alien species way more powerful than puny earth men...check. `Good guy' aliens living in crystal towers who identify with the poor, outgunned earth men...check. A `space commando' and a lowly navy Lt. who out fight and out think the highly advanced and super powerful bad aliens...check check. I could go on, but I think you get the point. The Author also takes us down little bunny trails that don't seem to have any relation to the story. For instance, the author spends a lot of time describing a day-long shopping trip one of the heroes takes with his wife and son. I kept waiting for something to happen...but all they did was shop. Also, the author's liberal use of F-bombs when the Russian commando is speaking is irritating and `forced' sounding. The whole story didn't flow and seemed quite stiff and poorly crafted. I guess you could say the author never really pulled me in. Listen, if you're an adolescent, you might find the story not so painful to read. However, if you are an adult and/or a reasonably sophisticated fan of the Sci-Fi genre, you should avoid this one.
Well Structured Story but lacks depth of characters 7 Feb 2012

I read a large portion of the ebook scifi military fiction and find better character depth and development than this story. Sorry, I liked the plot development and dialogue but the character's are too wooden.

Sci-fi has to be very carefully thought out, and this book by Ian Smethurst is very well thought out. Well written and exciting. An excellent book.
