Well, it's a new dawn for metal icons Iced Earth. With Matt Barlow leaving Iced Earth again, I was, again, disappointed, especially as Crucible Of Man was pretty crap, an album not even Barlow could save. Finding out Stu Block was to be the new vocalist, I instantly found out who he was, and how he sounded, and I became very skeptical - up until I heard him singing Dante's Inferno. WOW! That was amazing! Stu can go from deep baritone to high falsetto and in between, just like Matt could. He isn't Matt, but he's very similar, and Stu's falsetto sounds exactly the same as Tim Owens's. The music on Dystopia is great, very 90's sounding Iced Earth, everything from, ballady intro's, chugging riffs to all out thrash and beyond. It took me a couple of spins, but now I'm addicted to it! I'd have liked a long epic song, but there's still plenty of time for that to come! Iced Earth are back and are well and truly on the right road once again!

If you like real Heavy Metal, you will surely like Iced Earth`s newest album.
If you like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest etc, and have not yet discovered Iced Earth -> give "Dystopia" a change. You will probably be very glad you did.
The creative genius of Jon Schaffer combined with the new superb singer Stu Block (who can sing proves to be a recipe for success and will certainly win over lots and lots of new listeners. There are no fillers in the album, only good and strong heavy metal from the 1st song "Dystopia" to the album ending "Tradegy and Triumph".

Not bad, Iced Earth

I had my doubts about this album when I first heard it was going to be released this year. The ongoing line up changes has started to sour me on the band and I had little hope knowing that we were once again getting a new vocalist, Stu Block. However after listening to this a couple of times, I'm quite happy with the end result. Stu has the vocal power that seems to be a mix of ex volcalists Matt Barlow and Tim Owens wrapped all into one, which is a very good thing. Not really a drastic change in sound like there was when The Glorious Burden was released. The album has many good songs on it. My stand outs are V, Dystopia, and Anthem. Overall a soild album and should please Iced Earth fans. I would like to give Jon Shaffer some advice though, stop switching up the line up so often. Stick with a line up that works and keep it. I know things arent always in his control but at least make an effort to keep the band in one piece. Anyway, nice album and I hope they continue with this line up in the coming years.

Just thought id get in quick and give this album some early praise. This is Iced Earth, everything we have come to love plus more! Mr Block is a more than worthy replacement for Matt Barlow, and the music is nothing short of amazing. If youre an IE fan and were worried about would would happen after Barlow stepped down fear not! being a huge fan of Stu's other band Into Eternity i was aware of his talents, and after a few spins of Dystopia I am willing to say that he has added a few more dimensions to his amazing vocals, and at risk of being unpopular i would go as far as to say he is probably my favourite Iced Earth vocalist.
So in short if you love Iced Earth get this disc! you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic album beginning to end. It sounds much more like IE's older stuff than the recent albums; to the point that i referred to it as 'the second coming of Something Wicked' when discussing with a friend earlier. I had my doubts about yet another new singer, though I liked both Barlow and Owens a lot; but Stu sounds remarkably good, with a very wide range and able to produce similar voice as both of them. From the sounds of things, he'll do justice to the older songs when in concert.
The guitar and drum work is excellent as usual; very precise and many good riffs and some good solos.
Overall, best metal album i've heard in quite a while. The music and lyrics really sound like an intentional effort to be more like the older to middle albums, and it works. And it's immediately good to my ear; very accessible, unlike a few earlier albums which took a number of listens to get into.
