Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

DC22 Multi Floor is Dyson's medium-size cylinder vacuum for use on every floor type

DC22 Multi Floor is 1/3 smaller than a full-size Dyson cylinder, with no compromise on power. It has patented Root Cyclone technology so it doesn't lose suction. This has been combined with a core separator  an extra cyclonic stage, to capture even more microscopic dust. And because there are no replacement bags or filters to buy, there are no extra costs.

Cylinders are usually easier to store than uprights and DC22 Multi Floor  has Dyson's patented Telescope Wrap system - the wand and hose compress and wrap for compact storage. The dual mode floor tool removes dust and dirt from carpets and hard floors.

DC22 Multi Floor is constructed from tough ABS polycarbonate materials,  the same used to manufacture crash helmets, to withstand bumps and bashes. But it is compact, light, and easy to carry.

Patented Dyson technology
The technology that makes up the Root cyclone
Root cyclone technology for no loss of suction.

Dyson engineers are constantly testing and inventing new technology. As they work they file patent applications to protect their inventions. They have been granted 564 patents to date. That's why the only place you'll find Dyson technology is inside a Dyson machine.

Root Cyclone technology + core separator  captures more microscopic dust
DC22 Multi Floor has a 3-stage cyclone system to capture more microscopic dust. First, dust is drawn into a powerful cyclone. Centrifugal forces of 500 G fling larger dirt, debris, fibres and pet hairs into the clear bin.

Smaller particles are then forced into the core separator, an extra cyclonic stage between the outer and inner cyclones. Here the air spins so fast it separates particles as small as 0.5 microns from the airflow. These include allergens like pollen, mould spores and bacteria - so tiny 200 of them could fit on a full stop.

Dust and dirt is then spun from the core separator and into 14 inner cyclones, where the smallest particles are separated out. Here the cyclones generate forces up to 150,000G, capturing even more microscopic dust than any other cyclone system, with no loss of suction.

DC22 Multi Floor features

Dual mode floor tool
Cleans every floor type, with a wide debris channel to capture more dirt and dust. The outer edges agitate the carpet pile, flinging dirt and dust up into the airflow. To clean hard floors, press a button to release long bristles that protect delicate surfaces from scratches. The bristle curtain has gaps so it won't snowplough larger particles like rice and peanuts.

Telescope Wrap system
The wand and hose on DC22 Multi Floor compress and wrap around the cylinder, so it can be stored in confined spaces. And because it is compact, it is easy to carry.

Lightweight wand
For easy high-reach cleaning. Constructed from glass-filled polypropylene to withstand bumps and bashes, with a suction release trigger, so curtains, upholstery and rugs won't stick to it.

No extra costs
Other vacuum cleaners need replacement bags and filters and over 5 years the cost can be up to £175. Dyson vacuum cleaners don't use bags, and have lifetime washable filters, so there are no extra costs.

Clear bin lets you see when it needs emptying
The bin on a Dyson vacuum cleaner is transparent, so you can see when it needs emptying - and how much dust, dirt and pet hair has been removed. Emptying is quick and hygienic - just press the button to release the dirt.

Approved for allergy sufferers
One in three people in the UK suffers from allergies. Most reactions are triggered by dust mites and their faeces, pollen, fungus, fibres, food particles, all things that make up household dust. Also, animals deposit allergen-rich saliva on their fur when they clean themselves. This ends up on upholstery and carpets, where it can trigger allergies. Dyson machines are so efficient at removing allergens that they have been approved by 12 allergy associations worldwide. These include the British Allergy Foundation (BAF) and Allergie Suisse - one of the most stringent in the world. To secure it, vacuums have to provide constant suction and separation performance so that they don't lose suction power while you clean.

Washable HEPA filter for cleaner expelled air
DC22 Multi Floor has a lifetime washable HEPA (High-Efficiency Particle Air) filter to trap tiny particles as small as 0.1 microns. That's about the size of a single particle of cigarette smoke. Particles this small include common household allergens such as pollen, mould spores and dust mite faeces.

The air expelled by DC22 Multi Floor contains up to 150 times less mould spores and bacteria than the air you breathe. And because the filter is washable you won't need to replace it. Just give it a rinse once a month with cold water.

5 year parts and labour guarantee
Dyson engineers continually seek improvement: in performance, durability and ergonomics. They carry out extensive tests on their machines to ensure they're as durable as possible. Floor tools are knocked sideways into a metal bar 200 times. A push/pull rig shoves cleaners a minimum of 4,452,651 feet. The hose is kinked 7,280 times. The bin is flung open and slammed shut 1,560 times. Upright vacuum cleaners undergo 207 different validation tests, cylinders 235.

That's why Dyson guarantee all their uprights and cylinders for 5 years parts and labour. But if there is a problem you can call Dyson's award-winning UK-based call centre for free. And if something can't be solved over the phone, a Dyson engineer will come to you.

try before you buy 26 Jan 2011
I bought this model after the similar model Dyson I'd had for over 10 years, and which I loved, finally died. This one has good suction, and packs away small but it's a pig to empty, and for this reason alone I've given it such a low score. The debris doesn't just fall out of the bottom, you have to hold the bottom section open and pull out fibres etc by hand. This results in you and the dust holder getting covered in dirt, and clouds of dust being released into the air. I suggest you find somewhere you can try it out before buying - I wish I had, cos I would have gone for a different model

This is my first ever Dyson having wasted £100's of pounds on others, and, i must say after first few uses i am impressed at the amount it collects- great suction!

Also very easy to attach/detach pieces and tuck away.

Its not too heavy either but if only they were made using the 'ball' technology for easier maneouvering as it tends to get stuck around sofa's?!?

I have had the same issue of having to 'pull out' the dirt but I do hope it corrects itself in time!! Overall money well spent!

Frankly anyone who actually suffers from a dust mite allergy should not buy a bagless vacuum cleaner - which excludes any Dyson machine as the bagless design is their calling card. Allergy sufferers definitely need bag vacuum cleaners in order to contain the dust on disposal. I bought this vacuum because my daughter has a dust mite allergy and the DC22 has two filters as well as a cylinder for filtering out dust mite droppings - and it does do a terrific job however, when it comes to emptying the cylinder, a dust mite allergy sufferer doesn't stand a chance! Dust goes everywhere and the cylinder does not discharge the more solid dirt easily - sometimes requiring some poking and prodding and pulling out with fingers. Luckily this is ok for me because I don't have an allergy. My daughter however is just about to go to University and will need her own allergy vacuum cleaner - trust me, I will not be buying her this one!

Another important point is that when I first bought this vacuum, I had a hard laminate floor and its ability to clean this was faultless. Since then however, we have moved to rented property where there is a carpet and its cleaning ability is flawed to say the least. I don't know why this is called a `multi floor' vacuum; there is not even an adjustment on the head to adapt it from smooth floor to carpeted let alone a turbo head. There is a turbo head available which you can buy separately (but is expensive). The biggest problem we found with this vacuum on carpet is that it does not suck up human hair at all. It just rolls it up into tight little balls, which we found ourselves pushing around the floor and in the end, having to hand-feed into the hose.

Manoeuvrability too is very poor - unlike most other cylinder vacuums, the hose comes out of the side of the body of the machine instead of the central front making it drag along at an angle. It won't move round with me as I turn and quite often topples over. I am forever having to go up to it to unhook it from doorways and furniture (a very badly behaved vacuum cleaner indeed).

It's fine if you are the parent (or relative) of a dust mite allergy sufferer and good for hard floors (like the one we used to have) but this must only capture a small population of vacuum cleaner users.

Good points about this machine is that it folds away neatly (but probably takes up no less space than any other cylinder vacuum cleaner) and filtration and suction are good even when fairly full but you have to ask yourself - is this useful if there is no clean way to empty it? For me these are not good enough reasons to justify buying this particular vacuum cleaner over others.

We are now looking at the Miele S5261 for my daughter to use independently.
