Product Description

Product Description

The Dyson groom tool is a new way for dog owners to keep their home clean. It captures loose hair directly from your dog – before it's shed around the home. Captured hair is then sucked hygienically away into your Dyson vacuum cleaner. Mess free vacuum-assisted dog grooming.

Loose and flyaway hair is removed from the dog's coat by 364 slicker bristles. The bristles are angled at 35° and flex to an upright position when you apply pressure, penetrating the entire coat. Bristle length is controlled with a spring-loaded trigger – just push down or raise your thumb to adjust bristle length for different types of coat. The bristles retract when not in use for safe and hygienic storage.

During grooming, enough suction is directed to the dog's coat to capture loose hair and dead skin cells – without the tool sticking to the dog. When you remove the Dyson groom tool from the dog and release the thumb-trigger, full suction is transferred to the soleplate to suck the captured hair away.

The Dyson groom tool is suitable for medium and long-haired dogs.

364 slicker bristles
The Dyson groom tool has a total of 364 slicker bristles, each just 0.3mm in diameter, positioned in two rows. They're designed to allow you to remove loose hair with fewer strokes, making the grooming process more comfortable for your dog. The bristles are angled at 35°, so when pressure is applied they flex to an upright position to penetrate the entire coat and grab loose hairs.

Adjustable bristle length
Changing thumb pressure on the spring-loaded trigger extends or withdraws the slicker bristles. The length required depends on dog breed. Longer haired dogs need a longer bristle length to remove loose hairs from the undercoat. The Dyson groom tool should not be used on short-haired dogs.

Allergen capture during grooming
When the Dyson groom tool is in use, your vacuum cleaner's suction is split. Enough suction is directed into your dog's coat to capture dead skin cells without the Dyson groom tool sticking. Dead skin cells are also removed, which prevents the spread of allergens and helps make your dog look healthier.

Dyson groom features

Storage mode
When you remove your thumb from the spring trigger, the slicker bristles are pulled back into the tool. So the bristles won’t get damaged during storage or spread captured hair and allergens.

One-hand control
The spring-loaded trigger on the Dyson groom tool is thumb-operated. It lets you adjust bristle length and switch between groom and self-clean modes with one hand. Your other hand is left free to keep your dog still for easier grooming.

1 year parts and labour guarantee
The Dyson groom tool is made from the toughest materials. It comes with a free 1 year guarantee covering parts and labour.

Suitability

For medium and long-haired dogs
The slicker bristles on the Dyson groom tool are adjustable for different coat lengths using the spring-loaded trigger. The Dyson groom tool is suitable for medium and long-haired dogs. It shouldn’t be used on short haired dogs or dogs with woollen coats such as the Kommodor or Puli. It should only be used on adult dogs.

For most Dyson upright and cylinder vacuum cleaners
The Dyson groom tool comes with a universal adaptor to fit most Dyson upright and cylinder vacuum cleaners. It doesn’t fit DC01 machines, DC21 Motorhead, DC22 Motorhead, DC23 Motorhead and all Dyson handhelds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good idea but not very easy to use 6 Mar 2011
By Kerri
I bought this for my year old Golden Retriever - any one with a Golden will know how much hair they can shed!
Unfortunately my dog thinks the hoover is a toy for him to chase and play with, so getting him to sit still for the grooming was quite difficult, definitely a 2 person job!
The attachment does work quite well and the hair is contained, unlike grooming with an ordinary brush.
I do think it is over priced, but that seems to be the case with most Dyson products.
A good idea though

3.0 out of 5 stars A few tweaks and this could be great 4 Dec 2011

The Dyson dog grooming tool is a bizarrely ingenious solution for ridding yourself, and your home, of moulted dog hair, the bane of every dog owner's life. My Jack Russells seem to shed efficiently, constantly and totally - nowhere and nothing is safe, not even clothes the dogs have never touched.

The grooming tool is an attachment for Dyson vacuum cleaners with bristles that protrude from the bottom when you press down on the top spring-loaded button-bar, and then retract when you release it. Although some suction is always applied to the tool, most is blocked off when the bristles are in use; the act of retracting the bristles allows the full suction from the Dyson through, which pulls any hairs that have been caught in the bristles up and into the tool and then from there into the Dyson. As strange as the whole procedure sounds, it's actually a very intuitive, clever and effective way of grooming your dog.

The tool is of mostly plastic construction, the only exceptions being the grooming bristles which are metal; they're also quite long and sharp so if your dog has short hair or sensitive skin then he or she may not take readily to being groomed with it. With practice you can use the tool with the bristle bar only slightly pressed down which will shorten the length of the bristles and make the groom less harsh for your dog, but it's not easy at first. I would have liked Dyson to put a length setting adjustment on the tool to cater for dogs with different coats, but maybe that's not as easy to implement as it sounds.

The length of the dog's coat also appears to have an effect on the tool, as the coats on my two JR's are just a little too short and thin to groom in quite the same way as the TV adverts show. And, of course, using the tool will only be possible if you can get your dog near to it, as some (mine included) are petrified of the vacuum. But persevere with it, hopefully get your dog used to the noise of the machine and the feel of the bristles, and become accustomed to the whole process. In reality, though, I don't think mine will ever take fully to being groomed with the tool, nor do I think that they'll get to enjoy being scraped at with those sharp bristles. Which is a shame because at its heart this is a very good idea; a few tweaks and it could become an essential tool for every dog owner.

It does what it claims - it's a very effective dog brush and the hair just disappears up the vacuum cleaner tube. Like magic. As someone who feels that they're constantly grooming the dog but still hoovering up tons of dog hair I've been waiting for this.

I've only had mine a few days, so I don't know yet how much time I will save on hoovering. Also, it is not a cheap item so I hope it lasts. It seems sturdy enough.

I would advise anyone considering this purchase makes sure that their dog can tolerate being in the same room as a working vacuum cleaner! My Dyson DC07 has a nice long hose and my dog is fairly chilled so I haven't found it too difficult, but I would recommend gradually getting your dog used to your machine and using the brush without the vacuum at first. Also, I think the bristles might be a bit sharp unless your dog has long hair (they feel very sharp on your hand).

Works as well as a normal hand held brush but with far less mess because all the hair is sucked away

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product but unwieldy to use.
The attachment is very good and does what it says. However, it attaches to the hose of my Dyson which makes it difficult to hold and brush the dog.
